Description Responsibilities CNC and shop operations Manage the full production cycle with an emphasis on CNC-driven manufacturing processes. Program, set up, and operate CNC routers and related woodworking machinery (such as edge banders) to cut, shape, and drill materials. Optimize CNC programs and machine offsets to maximize material usage (nesting), minimize waste, and meet project dimensions and quality requirements. Coordinate tooling and perform preventative maintenance on all CNC equipment to ensure maximum uptime and optimal performance. Schedule, organize, and assign daily and weekly tasks to the production team, ensuring efficient workflow between CNC operations and traditional cabinetmaking. Quality control Conduct ongoing quality checks throughout the production process, paying close attention to the precision and finish of CNC-produced components. Inspect finished projects to ensure they match client specifications and uphold high standards of craftsmanship. Team leadership and development Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor all shop staff, with a focus on coaching CNC operators and cabinetmakers on best practices and effective problem-solving. Troubleshoot complex CNC and production issues, and provide technical support to the shop team. Foster a collaborative and professional team environment that emphasizes high performance and safety. Administrative duties Read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and CAD files to plan production. Manage and monitor the shop's budget and inventory, forecasting material needs and managing supplier relationships. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop environment in compliance with all safety regulations (e.g., OSHA). Maintain all shop equipment, ensuring tools and machinery are clean, safe, and properly functioning. Requirements Qualifications Experience: Proven experience in a cabinet or woodworking shop, with significant experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a CNC-based production environment. Technical Expertise: Strong, hands-on experience with CNC router operation, programming (e.g., Cabinet Vision, VCarve, Mosaic, or similar), and maintenance. Design Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and CAD files. Business Acumen: Experience with project management, inventory control, and budgeting within a manufacturing setting. Physical Ability: Must be physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting heavy materials. Skills Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on resolving technical CNC issues. Ability to train and develop a team of skilled craftspeople and machine operators. Proficiency with CAD/CAM software for design file review and CNC programming.
