ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Cabinetry Manufacturing Trainee position is offered through a specialized training stream under Civiconnect’s Youth Skills Studio (YSS) program. This program provides participants with the essential technical and soft skills that are needed to start a career in skilled trades.
This hands-on training program is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience and offers training in cabinetry or carpentry, and general machining.
Participants will work directly with a small business while receiving on-the-job training from industry professionals. They will gain hands-on experience operating equipment, reading and interpreting technical drawings, maintaining tools and machinery, and following workplace safety protocols.
Through a combination of structured workshops and hands-on learning, this program serves as a stepping stone for individuals looking to launch a career in cabinetry, carpentry, general machining and/or skilled trades.
WAGE: $22/hour
HOURS OF WORK: 35 Hours/Week
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: September 8th – December 5th 2025

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in mandatory technical and soft skills workshops to develop foundational trade knowledge and workplace competencies.
  • Learn and assist with various carpentry tasks, including:
  • Operating woodworking machinery such as table saws, routers, and edge banders under professional supervision.
  • Performing panel processing, edge banding, and hinging operations
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and cut lists.
  • Measuring, cutting, sanding, and assembling wood components for carpentry production.
  • Assisting with finishing techniques, including staining, painting, and sealing.
  • Assisting in the fabrication and installation of (custom cabinetry) and (doors)
  • Inspecting finished products for quality and ensuring they meet specifications.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and performing routine equipment maintenance.
  • Assisting with additional tasks as needed.
