The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. International Affairs Director Reports To Commissioner of Campus Affair Job Summary The Campus Affairs Commission (CAC) seeks to implement and support programming and advocacy avenues for undergraduate students in the Queen’s community. The CAC also aims to advocate within undergraduate international affairs sectors to improve programming and supports. The International Affairs Director, under the Commissioner of Campus Affairs, is responsible for representing international students within the AMS. The International Affairs Director will lead and support initiatives, campaigns, and projects, and develop advocacy points to the university to enhance support, programming, and spaces for international students. **For international students only. Competencies Communication Cultural Sensitivity Creativity Collaboration Organization Job Duties 10–12 hours/week (September – April) Host events and projects to support community building among international students. Create and support campaigns to advance advocacy efforts to the university regarding tuition, education, community building, and more for international students. Oversee and facilitate training for International Affairs Mentors Supervise two International Affairs Officers and one Marketing Coordinator Attend all training sessions to become familiar with the commission and its operation Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively Maintain timely communication with the CAC Respect and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards. Attend and fully participate in all in-person and virtual meetings. Strive to foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere for international students.
