The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Special Projects Director Reports To Commissioner of Campus Affairs Job Summary The Campus Affairs Commission (CAC) seeks to implement and support programming and advocacy avenues for undergraduate students in the Queen’s community. The Special Projects Director is responsible for supporting the planning and execution of large-scale events. This role works closely with the Campus Affairs Commissioner and other stakeholders to ensure the success of major events while providing support and guidance for smaller club event Competencies Communication Organization Attention to Detail Collaboration Adaptability Creativity Job Duties 10–12 hours/week (September – April) Assist in planning and executing major events, including but not limited to Homecoming and St. Patrick’s Day Develop and implement promotional strategies for events and activities. Collaborate with the Campus Affairs Commissioner and other staff to ensure a seamless event planning process. Ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures Attend all training sessions to become familiar with the commission and adhere to the general operations of CAC. Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively Maintain timely communication with the CAC. Respect and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards Attend and fully participate in all in-person and virtual meetings Strive to foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere for international students. Always serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statemen Complete other duties as assigned by the CAC. Responsibilities
