It’s how we’ve served our clients, both public and private, for over 100 years and collaborated to transform the communities we live in for the better. Our core values of integrity, quality, and service – have created a culture that leaves a lasting impact on those we have the honor to serve in any capacity.
GFY is seeking a detail-oriented Civil 3D / MicroStation Drafter with expertise in GIS, Land Survey Drafting, Subsurface Utility Mapping (SUM/SUE), and Point Cloud Extraction. The ideal candidate will support engineering, surveying, and utility coordination projects by preparing accurate drawings, integrating geospatial and survey data, and processing point clouds into usable CAD/GIS deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, GIS, or Surveying (Bachelor’s preferred but not required).
  • Proficiency in:
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • MicroStation
  • TopoDOT (point cloud feature extraction)
  • ESRI ArcGIS (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro)
  • Strong knowledge of coordinate systems and ability to convert between geographic and projected systems in GIS/ArcGIS Pro.
  • Experience with additional point cloud processing software (ReCap, Cyclone, Trimble RealWorks, CloudCompare, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of survey drafting principles, including processing field data and creating deliverables.
  • Familiarity with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) workflows.
  • Excellent spatial awareness, attention to detail, and ability to produce accurate, high-quality drawings.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years in civil/survey drafting, GIS mapping, or 3D scanning.
  • Knowledge of utility coordination and conflict analysis.
  • Experience with LiDAR, GPS, total station, and aerial/drone photogrammetry data integration.
  • Ability to automate workflows with Python, AutoLISP, or GIS scripting tools.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings, plans, profiles, cross-sections, and exhibits using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation.
  • Utilize TopoDOT for point cloud feature extraction and processing.
  • Draft survey plats, boundary maps, legal descriptions, topographic surveys, and ALTA/NSPS survey deliverables.
  • Process raw survey field data (points, linework, surfaces) and integrate into CAD models.
  • Import, manage, and analyze GIS data for civil design, survey mapping, and land development.
  • Work with coordinate systems in GIS/ArcGIS Pro, including assigning, converting, and transforming between geographic and projected coordinate systems.
  • Perform subsurface utility mapping (SUE) drafting, incorporating QL-A through QL-D utility data.
  • Process and extract features from LiDAR and point cloud datasets to generate surfaces, planimetrics, and as-built drawings.
  • Generate 2D/3D maps, exhibits, and geospatial deliverables for engineers, surveyors, and clients.
  • Maintain CAD/GIS databases of utilities, survey records, and project data.
  • Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, utility coordinators, and 3D scanning specialists to ensure accurate design integration.
  • Perform QA/QC on drafting, mapping, survey, and point cloud deliverables.
