Description Summary/Objective: We are seeking a CAD Technician to support subsurface utility mapping, pothole investigations, and permitting efforts. This role focuses on working within client-provided CAD files and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys to assist in the preparation of pothole permit exhibits and utility-related plan sets. This position is ideal for someone looking to build a technical career in utility mapping, civil drafting, or Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE). Training and mentorship are provided, with clear opportunities for growth as skills develop. Duties & Responsibilities: Assist with creating and editing CAD drawings related to subsurface utilities and pothole investigations Utilize client-provided CAD files as base drawings while maintaining file integrity and standards Interpret ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys to identify boundaries, easements, rights-of-way, and control Create pothole permit maps and exhibits showing proposed pothole locations, limits of work, and relevant site features Import, organize, and manage external CAD files, Xrefs, and survey data Apply company and client drafting standards (layers, linetypes, blocks, symbols, annotations) Update drawings based on plans, field sketches, utility markouts, and client feedback Prepare clear, legible, submission-ready exhibits for municipalities, agencies, and private owners Maintain organized project folders and clean CAD file structure Communicate with project staff to clarify scope, base file content, and permitting requirements Qualifications: Basic experience with AutoCAD (AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, Civil 3D, MicroStation or similar) Ability to work within existing CAD files provided by clients or consultants General understanding of drawing scale, layouts, and plotting Strong attention to detail and ability to follow drafting standards Willingness to learn survey interpretation and utility mapping concepts Good communication skills and ability to ask questions when requirements are unclear High school diploma or equivalent Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications: Coursework or certification in CAD, drafting, surveying, GIS, or civil engineering Familiarity with ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary surveys, or civil base files Experience with Xrefs, blocks, layers, and layouts Exposure to potholing, utility locating, 811 tickets, or utility plan sets Basic understanding of permitting exhibits or right-of-way drawings Growth & Advancement Opportunities: As skills develop, this role may expand to include: Independent preparation of pothole permit exhibits and utility plans Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) drafting and data integration Coordination with field crews, surveyors, and project managers QA/QC review of CAD deliverables Increased client-facing and permitting responsibilities
