Kismet Engineering is a small steel fabrication company delivering a variety of high-quality structural and bespoke steel solutions for a range of industries. We work up to and including BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3 (EXC3) standards, supporting a range of commercial and industrial projects. As our team grows, we’re looking to appoint an experienced Solidworks CAD Technician to join our team.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience using SolidWorks in a fabrication or engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes
  • Experience working on structural steel projects
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and tolerances

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Knowledge of SigmaNEST for nesting and CNC cutting
  • Experience using SolidSteel parametric or similar SolidWorks add-ons
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office
  • High level of attention to detail and organisation
    Although the role will initially be in person, we would be open to the possibility of hybrid working on completion of successful probationary period, and subject to the company and customers needs.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a CAD Technician, reporting to and collaborating with the Director, you will refine and produce precise 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings using SolidWorks. This will be a combination of ground up designs from briefing notes and/or customer specifications, but also the development of designs or concepts that have been started by someone else.
You’ll work alongside other departments and customers to deliver compliant, efficient, and practical solutions ready to be signed off and passed to the workshop for fabrication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use SolidWorks to create new, or develop existing, detailed CAD designs and models, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications and industry standards up to BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3 (EXC3)
  • Produce detailed drawing packs and bill of materials from completed models
  • Daily liaison with workshop manager and staff, answering any questions they may have in relation to models, drawings or material requirements
  • Contribute to process improvements and design standardisation
  • Review and adjust designs based on feedback and project requirements.
  • Aid with the development and maintenance of our in house PDM
  • Assist in project planning, scheduling and estimation where necessary
