Job Type: Full-time
Reports To: CAD Leader
Job Overview:
Western Archrib is seeking a skilled CAD Tech to join our growing team and help shape the future of sustainable construction through mass timber. In this role, you’ll work closely with architects, engineers, and production teams to develop precise shop drawings, panel layouts, and fabrication details for components such as Glulam (glue-laminated timber).
The ideal candidate is experienced in timber detailing, CNC manufacturing processes, and advanced 3D modeling—ready to contribute to ambitious projects that redefine the built environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Drafting, Architecture, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of CAD drafting experience, preferably in mass timber, structural, or architectural design.
  • Software Proficiency:
  • CADWORK, Dietrich’s, SEMA, or HSBCAD (preferred for mass timber design)
  • AutoCAD, Revit, and Rhino (or equivalent 2D/3D modeling software)
  • Experience with CNC programming and file preparation for automated manufacturing (a plus).
  • Knowledge of wood engineering principles, timber joinery, and connection detailing.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and structural documents.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and industry standards (IFC, LOD requirements).
Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D CAD drawings for mass timber components, including shop drawings, connection details, and production plans.
  • Prepare fabrication and assembly drawings for glulam, GLT and other engineered wood products.
  • Review and interpret architectural and structural designs, identifying and resolving potential conflicts
  • Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, project managers and manufacturing teams to maintain design intent and ensure seamless construction.
  • Prepare CNC cutting files and optimize nesting for automated fabrication processes.
  • Assist in developing BIM (Building Information Modeling) models and integration with project workflows.
  • Maintain and update the CAD library with standardized components and connection details.
  • Ensure all designs comply with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assist with project documentation, including bill of materials (BOM), RFIs, and revision control.
  • Other related duties as required.
