About the Position:
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Chef to play a key role in the daily operations of the Mountainside Café. This position will collaborate closely with the Head Chef, provide leadership in their absence, and mentor Extended Care clients—all while reflecting and upholding Mountainside’s mission and values.
Schedule:
Wednesday - Sunday, shifts between 6:00 am and 4:30 pm

Your Role:

  • Assist in preparing daily prep lists and share/delegate responsibilities of cooking to ensure timely execution of each meal.
  • Exhibit great organizational skills while providing professional management and direction to the kitchen.
  • Lead by example and assist in cleaning projects when applicable.
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress code
  • Learn, follow and enforce company policies, kitchen procedures and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assume duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Head Chef and/or Department manager.
  • Comply fully with all Safety Polices and Procedures.
  • Assist and share in other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Head Chef and General Manager.
  • Communicate interdepartmentally and address their needs with respect and dignity.
  • Commitment to quality service and food and beverage knowledge.
  • Manages and directs the activities of assigned staff; Ensures a trained, motivated and professional staff capable of providing efficient and effective operations and exceptional service.
  • Establishes performance expectations and monitors results.
  • Coaches and counsels staff as necessary.
  • Assist in training new hires.
  • Communicate any new methods, ideas, staffing issues, etc. with Chef to advance quality, efficiency, survey results, revenues and labor/food cost budgets.
  • Perform dietary client consultations whenever necessary.
  • Check in deliveries for accuracy/quality and ensure they are put away properly.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of cooking experience in restaurant, banquet or catering business required.
  • Minimum of 2 years working as lead production line cook preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in culinary preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification preferred.

  • Professional communication skills, oral and written.

  • Excellent time management skills and multitasking ability.
  • Ability to create and write menus.
  • Strong working knowledge of each kitchen station.
  • Progressive people management skills.
  • Ability to cook independently and to a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of basic training techniques
  • Awareness of local, state and federal health and sanitation laws
  • Computer competency (MS Word and MS Excel, MS Outlook)

Compensation:
The base rate of pay for this position is $21.00 to $24.00 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
