OUR COMPANY:

The Halfmoon Bay General Store, a community cornerstone for over ninety years, is a family-owned business that prides itself in employee retention and strong customer relations. With summer tourism being a key driver, most of our sales occur between June and September. We are currently undergoing a full rebuild, set to be completed by summer 2025. Along with an upgraded grocery store, we are introducing uncomplicated café style food service in a hybrid business model.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent product knowledge and ability to keep up with food trends and new products.
  • Maintain good vendor relationships, develop new ones.
  • Growth mindset towards greater responsibility and ownership.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in costing and managing inventory
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability, able to prioritize.
  • Proficiency with email and operations-related applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Food Handlers certificate
  • Serving it right (can be completed online before start date)
  • Certification in any hospitality or culinary program is a bonus
  • 3+ years working in a culinary field
  • 6+ months in a management capacity

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, hobart mixer, box cutters.
    Job Type: Full-time
    Pay: $40,000.00-$55,000.00 per year

Responsibilities
  • Daily food production of baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, soups etc.
  • Display and maintain food counter layout and product merchandising.
  • Ensure accuracy of store signage with regards to pricing
  • Create and cost out standardized recipes
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen.
  • Operate and sanitize all equipment in a safe and proper manner
  • Ensure all prepared items are properly labeled, covered and rotated
  • Work with the owners for forecasting and goal setting
  • Place weekly orders for ingredients and supplies under budget
  • Ensure all paperwork is properly submitted for vendor processing.
  • Function as point person in absence of store manager.
  • Follow all regulatory guidelines
  • Comply with the Health and Safety and Food Safety policies
  • Maximize sales and gross profit through effective and creative merchandising
