Description Position Overview We are seeking a reliable and experienced Cafeteria Head Cook to lead daily kitchen operations at our elementary school. This role is responsible for preparing nutritious meals, maintaining food safety standards, supervising kitchen staff, and creating a positive dining experience for students. Key Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with USDA and school nutrition guidelines Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food prep, cooking, and service Supervise and support cafeteria staff; assist with scheduling and training Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations Manage food inventory, ordering, and storage Monitor portion control and minimize food waste Maintain the cleanliness and organization of kitchen and serving areas Accommodate student dietary needs, allergies, and special meal requirements Collaborate with school administration on menus, events, and special programs Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Prior experience in food service or a commercial kitchen required Previous supervisory or lead cook experience preferred Knowledge of food safety practices (ServSafe certification preferred) Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to lift [e.g., 30–50 lbs] and stand for extended periods Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a school or institutional food service setting Familiarity with USDA school meal programs or willing to learn Experience managing inventory and ordering supplies in this series are responsible for food preparation, production and cleanup in a cafeteria setting according to established dietary requirements of quality, quantity, nutrition, appearance, temperature and timeliness.
