JOB OVERVIEW

KAJ Pastry & Bakery, located at 1823 Lonsdale Ave, is looking for a talented and creative Cake Decorator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of professional experience in cake decorating and a strong passion for crafting beautiful and delicious creations. You will be responsible for decorating cakes, cupcakes, and other specialty desserts to meet customer requests and maintain our high-quality standards. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced bakery environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in cake decorating.
  • Ability to work with various decorating techniques including piping, fondant shaping, and airbrushing (an asset).
  • Strong understanding of food handling safety practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints while maintaining high quality.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • A creative eye for design and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Foodsafe certified or equivalent (within 1 week of employment).
    TO WORK FOR US: You MUST have valid proof of Social Insurance Number and be legally able to work in Canada with proof as a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Valid Work Permit.

Responsibilities
  • Decorate cakes, cupcakes, and specialty desserts according to customer specifications and bakery standards.
  • Work with buttercream, fondant, ganache, and other decorating mediums.
  • Assist with baking and preparing cake layers and fillings when needed.
  • Collaborate with the bakery team to ensure timely completion of orders, especially during peak times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service, including taking custom cake orders and answering questions.
  • Ensure quality control by checking the appearance, taste, and freshness of all decorated items.
