SUMMARY

We now have a full time permanent vacancy for an experienced Cake Decorator / Pastry Chef to join our team and be responsible for producing a full range of (mainly) cake products to the highest standard and quality following company specifications & processes. You will be working alongside, and supporting the existing full-time Head Pastry Chef / Cake Decorator.
Please note this is NOT a role for those who’ve only baked Viennoiserie or bread or those who’ve just been cake decorators. A minimum of 2 year’s solid experience as a professional cake decorator / pastry chef producing a wide range of cakes in a commercial production kitchen or bakery is essential.
As an experienced individual you will enjoy working in a busy environment, consistently producing each day a variety of premium artisan baked goods. You do not need to have experience of baking ‘free from’ products as you will receive training. You will learn about the ‘free from’ world, ingredients and applications. We use no premixes, no preservatives, no additives - your skills will be put to good use every day as you take the finest ingredients and create our cakes.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will be:
1) maintaining constant excellent quality of all products - attention to detail, ensuring consistency of taste, texture and appearance as well as quality control are essential
2) baking a range from individual bakes bakewell tarts, cupcakes to whole cakes and savoury bakes
3) multi-tasking - experience of organising and juggling diverse baking tasks is necessary
4) planning & prioritising your weekly production baking schedule for wholesale shops, private orders and our retail market stall.
5) working closely with our cake decorator/pastry chef including other team members to ensure orders are prepared in a timely manner for despatch daily.
6) ingredient stock management and ordering of ingredients (via admin support)
7) masking/decorating (using vegan frosting/ganache) some cakes & cupcakes.
8) Work with the business owners on creating new products (seasonal).
The successful candidate will demonstrate added value by bringing fresh ideas and show creativity that add commercial value.

  • Being quick and methodical, whilst maintaining high production standards.
  • A sense of humour whilst remaining focused to produce variable quantities every day.
  • Ability to delegate & oversee supporting staff whilst remaining a ‘hands on’ worker and being a friendly, calm and happy team player
  • An interest in current baking/cake trends alongside willingness to adapt, and a flair for ideas and creativity
  • Working alongside the business owners, developing new products to meet customer trends, seasonality or themes
  • An excellent level of written & spoken English; you should also possess a valid work permit and National Insurance number
  • A knowledge of HACCP and food safety practices

Hours: You should be familiar with working 40-45 hours pw (flexibility of hours according to orders) Monday-Sunday.
7.30-8am start is a pre-requisite. In addition, occasional weekend work (1 day) may be required once every 3-4 months and during seasonal months (Nov/Dec/Easter).
Remuneration: Starting salary approx. £28k per annum (£13.50 per hour) plus benefits (28 days holidays, pension, fresh fruit/soup, staff discounts on cake).
Location: Our bakery is close to Battersea Park Station, SW8 4EY
