JOB SUMMARY:

The Instrument Lab Technician is responsible for performing precise calibration, testing, and maintenance of a wide range of process and linear measuring instruments. This includes pressure, temperature, electrical, and dimensional equipment. The role ensures all instruments comply with industry standards, client specifications, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements (if applicable). The technician will work in a controlled lab environment and may support on-site calibration activities as needed.

EDUCATIONAL & TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering.
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in calibration of industrial instruments.
  • Familiarity with international calibration standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025, NIST traceability).
  • Strong understanding of measurement principles, instrument types, and tolerances.
  • Good documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office and calibration software/tools.
  • Attention to detail and quality-focused mindset.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team under minimal supervision.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Good understanding of instrumentation fundamentals and measurement techniques.
  • Willingness to learn calibration standards and laboratory practices.
  • Ability to use basic tools, hand instruments, and measurement devices.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and calibration software is an advantage.

GOOD COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK SKILLS.

  • Physical fitness for handling equipment and lab mobility.
Responsibilities
  • Perform calibration and functional testing of instruments such as:
  • Pressure instruments: Pressure Gauges, Pressure Transmitters, Pressure Switches.
  • Temperature instruments: Temperature Gauges, Temperature Transmitters, RTDs.
  • Flow & level instruments: Flow Meters (DP, ultrasonic, turbine), Level Transmitters/Switches.
  • Dimensional tools: Micrometers, Vernier Calipers, Dial Gauges.
  • Electrical instruments: Multimeters, Clamp Meters, Insulation Testers.
  • Miscellaneous equipment: Chillers, Freezers, Weighing Scales, Timers.
  • Operate calibration equipment, pressure controllers, temperature baths, signal generators,

deadweight testers, etc.

  • Record calibration data accurately and issue calibration certificates with traceability to

national/international standards.

  • Assist in the setup, maintenance, and verification of laboratory calibration systems and

equipment.

  • Interpret calibration procedures, datasheets, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the calibration lab environment.
  • Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective actions under supervision.
  • Ensure calibration turnaround times are met according to service level agreements.
  • Support audits and documentation as per ISO/IEC 17025 or client quality systems.
