Calibration Technician Location: Grand Rapids, MI, regional travel required Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly) Pay Range: Starting at $26/hour based on experience and certifications Reports To: Laboratory Manager   About the Role GR Metrology is seeking a Calibration Technician to perform precision equipment calibrations both onsite at customer locations and in our laboratory. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, values accuracy, and wants to build a long-term career in metrology. You will receive structured training, work alongside experienced technicians, and develop skills across multiple measurement disciplines while representing GR Metrology as a trusted partner to our customers.   What You’ll Do Calibration & Technical Service * Perform onsite and in-lab equipment calibrations and generate calibration certificates. * Work across assigned measurement disciplines such as temperature, dimensional, force, pressure, mass, and electrical (additional disciplines trained over time). * Prepare for field work by reviewing procedures, specifications, and equipment lists. * Handle customer equipment and company standards with care to maintain integrity and traceability. * Identify equipment requiring repair and communicate findings clearly. * Accurately document calibration results, asset data, time, and parts usage using company systems. * Perform basic setup and installation of plug-and-play distributed products. * Maintain company vehicle condition and report maintenance needs promptly. Customer Interaction & Representation * Serve as a professional, courteous representative of GR Metrology at customer sites. * Communicate clearly with customers during check-in, service, and close-out. * Provide basic guidance or training as appropriate. * Identify opportunities to support customer needs and promote GR Metrology services. * Build trust by delivering reliable, value-added service. Safety, Quality & Compliance * Follow all safety procedures with a strong “no shortcuts” mindset. * Report safety incidents or near misses promptly. * Ensure tools, equipment, and standards are in proper working condition and within calibration. * Support internal quality reviews and documentation requirements. * Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly store tools and equipment. Growth & Continuous Improvement * Participate in company training and development opportunities. * Take ownership of certifications and professional growth. * Contribute ideas for improvement and participate in team initiatives. * Demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance, punctuality, and strong work ethic. * Perform other duties as assigned to support team and business needs.   What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications * High School Diploma or GED. * Mechanical, technical, or electrical aptitude with an interest in hands-on work. * Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally. * Ability to work overtime, weekends, or on-call as needed. * Ability to work in varied environments. * Physical ability to stand for extended periods, walk several miles per shift, bend frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs. * Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing and physical; compliance with a drug- and alcohol-free workplace.
