Position Title: Camp Counsellor, Senior Lifeguard Reports To: Supervisor, Camp Programs I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities The Camp Counsellor, Senior Lifeguard will support the Section Head, Waterfront with the planning, supervision and facilitation of all waterfront programs, with a focus on best guest experience. This position is responsible for providing leadership to staff and volunteers to ensure guests are provided an exceptional experience during all waterfront programming.   II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities: * Provide leadership to the waterfront team, through mentorship and act as a liaison between the waterfront team and the coordinator team/program head.    * Safely support the lifeguarding of our waterfront and boating programs, including active supervision of their assigned area. Ensure guest safety by adhering to CNIB Lake Joe Waterfront procedures, and the standards of the Lifesaving Society, Ontario Camping Association and Public Health.   * Organize swim tests on the first day of camp, including making an in/out document for tracking of campers in and out of the waterfront.    * Energetically and inclusively facilitate and support waterfront and non-waterfront programming, as assigned, and adapt programs so that they are accessible for all participants.   * Participate in the facilitation of programs aside from waterfront as scheduled be the leadership team.  * Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties, including serving meals, meal set up and clean up   * Provide support, guidance and leadership to volunteers, guests, and visitors  * Set up the assigned program area and ensure that all required equipment and materials are available. Clean up the program after the program is completed. Report any low materials or issues with equipment to the appropriate program head.   * Alongside other counsellors, fill out the daily opening and closing logs for the waterfront and ensure that all safety equipment is present and in working order  * On a rotational basis, be part of the emergency response team, which includes being on call, present on site and available to respond to emergencies.   * Promote and encourage participation in programs through endorsement of activities to guests  * Maintain documentation of any accidents or incidents and provide this documentation to the appropriate leadership member  * During youth weeks: Camp counsellors will be scheduled to ensure the 24/7 supervision of youth campers. Camp counsellors will be assigned to a group of campers and as a team, will be responsible for ensuring the overall mental, physical and emotional well-being of campers.   * During the spring season: Setting up program areas and ensuring that all required resources are available and helping with small maintenance tasks   * Work as a team member, taking on other areas of responsibility as needed.  * Other duties as assigned. III. Qualifications Knowledge and Skill Requirements * Strong interpersonal skills including patience and communication   * Experience and knowledge of teambuilding, initiative tasks and leadership skill programming   * Current National Lifeguard (NLS) certification required    * Current Waterfront NLS an asset    * Willingness to be cross-discipline trained on facilitating active living/adventure programs   * Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check    * Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”    * PCO (Pleasure Craft Operator) card, or willingness to obtain    * Ability to work flexible hours in a changing and busy environment and work outside for extended period of time Experience and Education * Experience in camp or other recreation programs an asset   Work Environment * Outdoor work required in this position. Working outdoors may include exposure to weather, sun and heat exposure.
