Camp Indigo, the first day camp for transgender and gender nonconforming kids, is looking for Team Leaders for the 2026 season. Team Leaders work in groups of 2-3 and are responsible for the safety and fun of a team of 15-25 campers of like ages. This position requires a certain campy pizazz and is instrumental in building and maintaining the Camp Indigo culture our families know and love. Responsibilities: Managing and energizing a group of age-specific campers throughout their camp day Making every moment count by filling transition times with games and jokes, utilizing each opportunity to make your team feel connected and special Escorting campers to different activities and keeping constant track of the safety and location of each of the children on your team Managing checkout and developing friendly relationships with campers’ guardians Assisting with daily setup and cleanup of camp Supporting Lead Instructors with classroom activities - including classroom management and camper engagement Skills: The most successful Team Leaders bring energy, patience, and quirkiness to the Camp Indigo community. You’ll do really well here if you have/can: Experience and familiarity with the transgender youth community Ability to match the energy, sense of humor and needs of 5-12 year olds Practice “Yes Leadership” - where we proactively look for ways to improve the program and experience of our campers and adult peers An outgoing and energetic personality. To be clear, we don’t expect everyone to be wild extroverts. We actually need our introverts. AND we still need all staff to be able to meet the energy needs to campers Clear and effective communication skills. We lift each other up - and this means addressing conflict as it happens, setting body and emotional boundaries, and being an ally to our camp community A strong practice of reliability and punctuality. Camp only runs 1-4 weeks depending on location. Your fellow staff (and campers) are counting on you! Willingness to try new things. Sometimes it gets weird and messy around here. We need you to be excited about that First aid/CPR Certified certified preferred Childcare experience required. This might look like many different things depending on your age. Babysitting, teaching, mentoring, camp experience - all good! Working with kids requires a certain je ne sais quoi - we just need to know that you dig it. Schedule: 8am- 4pm Monday-Friday during scheduled camp weeks. Note that there is a preference for staff who can work all weeks in their chosen location. All dates are provided below for information purposes. Boulder, CO: June 1st-5th; June 8th - 12th; June 15th - 19th Oakland, CA: June 22nd - 26th; June 29th - July 3rd; July 6th - 10th; July 13th- 17th Columbus, OH: June 29th - July 3rd Minneapolis, MN: July 6th - 10th Austin, TX: July 20th - 24th Long Beach, CA: July 27th - 31st Setup/Training day Saturday and/or Sunday prior to camp week Additional 2 hour long remote trainings before camp Compensation: Summer staff are paid an hourly rate respective to their location: $21.81/hr in Boulder, CO $23.50/hr in Oakland, CA $17.70/hr in Columbus, OH $18.13/hr in Minneapolis, MN $20.80/hr in Austin, TX $23.50/hr in Long Beach, CA Returning staff earn $.50 more per hour per year worked up to 10 years Find out more about Camp Indigo and our impact at www.thecampindigo.org.
