Description Under the supervision of the Camp Director PA/Archery Director is responsible for planning, supervising, and delivering a safe, engaging, and a developmentally appropriate archery program and low and high ropes course activities for campers in a safe, fun, and supportive environment. This role supports the YMCA’s mission by fostering confidence, teamwork, skill development, and a positive camp experience in a fun and inclusive environment. This is a summer seasonal position with a start date of June 22nd going through August 23rd. Shifts will be between the hours of 7:45am-4:30pm Monday-Friday; occasional evenings (after 4:30pm) for staff meetings & weekends as necessary for special events. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Archery Plan, organize, and lead daily archery activities for campers of various ages and skill levels Ensure all archery instruction follows YMCA policies, safety standards, and range procedures Maintain a safe archery range, including proper setup, breakdown, and equipment storage Inspect, maintain, and inventory all archery equipment (bows, arrows, targets, safety gear) Instruct campers on proper technique, safety rules, and sportsmanship Supervise and mentor archery counselors or assistants Adapt instruction to meet the needs of all campers, including beginners and those with special needs Promote a positive, encouraging atmosphere that supports confidence and skill progression Communicate effectively with camp leadership regarding program needs, safety concerns, and camper progress Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies, following YMCA procedures Serve as a positive role model, upholding YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Project Adventurer Instruct and supervise campers during ropes course and challenge course activities Conduct safety briefings, equipment checks, and proper harnessing/belaying procedures Facilitate age-appropriate team-building, trust, and problem-solving activities Ensure all safety policies, emergency procedures, and YMCA standards are followed Actively monitor participants to maintain physical and emotional safety Encourage participation while supporting campers at their individual comfort levels Maintain ropes course equipment and report safety concerns immediately Serve as a positive role model and reinforce YMCA values Assist with general camp duties as needed QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age requirement per state and YMCA guidelines (typically 18+) Prior archery experience required; instructional experience strongly preferred Current archery certification (or willingness to obtain before camp begins) CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting preferred Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to enforce safety rules consistently and effectively Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Previous experience with ropes courses, outdoor education, or adventure programming preferred Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor conditions Ropes course certification required or willingness to be trained Job Type: Seasonal Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:45am-4:30pm Pay: $18.50/hr.
