As a Campground Team Member at The Wilds, you’ll play a vital role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable stay for our guests while supporting the mission of the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks. Responsibilities The Campground Team Member supports daily campground operations, guest services, retail transactions, and activity programming while helping ensure a safe and positive guest experience. The role also includes shuttle operation and light facility maintenance. Guest Services & Campground Operations Distribute appropriate parking passes tailored to guest experiences. Check guests into their assigned sites efficiently and accurately. Greet and direct guests upon arrival. Answer guest inquiries regarding The Wilds and its conservation initiatives. Process sales transactions accurately and securely using cash and credit card systems. Take personal responsibility for resolving customer complaints and refer unresolved issues to management. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Campground, site locations, amenities, and daily offerings. Educate guests on current activities, tours, and conservation messaging at The Wilds. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of stock within the campground store and assist guests with their needs. Keep the store clean, organized, and well‑stocked; notify management of low inventory. Provide assistance with special events held at the campground. Create and run scheduled guest activities throughout the week (e.g., crafts, campfire programs, family games, nature walks). Assist with light outdoor maintenance such as trash removal, site tidying, and replenishing firewood or supplies as needed. Assist with cleaning shower houses, restrooms, and other shared facilities. Shuttle & Vehicle Operations Run shuttle services as needed. Perform daily vehicle inspections to ensure safe and efficient operations. Keep all shuttle and support vehicles clean and well maintained. Operate vehicles safely while following all traffic and operational guidelines. Safety, Communication & Compliance Maintain a positive and professional attitude while ensuring guest and team safety. Operate two-way radios for effective communication with team members and management. Adhere to all established safety protocols, emergency procedures, and operational guidelines. Follow all campground policies regarding fire safety, wildlife safety, and guest conduct. Comply with The Wilds’ Drug-Free Workplace Policy and all required background checks. Qualifications Skills & Experience Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effective guest service skills and the ability to work independently without direct supervision. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced outdoor environment. Ability to work collaboratively with team members across The Wilds and the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks. Basic knowledge of local wildlife and plant species preferred. Previous retail, customer service, or campground experience preferred but not required. Positive, professional attitude with a commitment to delivering excellent guest service. Physical & Schedule Requirements Must be at least 21 years of age Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 lbs as needed. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Willingness to adjust schedule based on weather, guest attendance, and department needs. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Maintain appropriate employee appearance standards. Compliance, Licensing & Safety Possession of a valid state‑issued driver’s license with a good driving record. Subject to a criminal background check and BMV review. Subject to The Wilds’ Drug‑Free Workplace Policy. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.
