Description The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is currently seeking a Campus Operations Director to join our team. This is a full-time, FLSA exempt opportunity. Since 1897, the Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW) has been caring for the animals of Southwest Washington. Today, we are the largest animal welfare agency in Southwest Washington with campuses in Vancouver and Longview, where we help thousands of adoptable pets find shelter, TLC, and loving homes. And through programs like free pet food, emergency shelter, financial assistance, and medical care, we provide critical support that helps pets in need stay home with the families they love. Thanks to our hardworking staff and volunteers, we serve more than 10,000 pets each year. At our Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC), we provide high-quality, subsidized care to the pets of income-qualified families in our community. The CVC expands access to preventative care and spay/neuter, provides care for treatable conditions, and offers essential support to keep pets happy and healthy. And at ReTails Thrift Store, our team of staff and volunteers help hundreds of thousands of items find a second life, providing vital funding for our work with animals. Our mission is to rescue, return, restore, rehome, and reconnect one animal at a time. The Campus Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Humane Society for Southwest Washington’s Longview Campus. This role leads teams in animal care, adoptions, transport, foster, and admissions to ensure high-quality care, excellent service, and alignment with HSSW’s mission, values, philosophies, policies, and the ASV Guidelines. The Director reports to the VP of Operations and partners closely with Vancouver-based leadership to align goals, strengthen collaboration, and advance organization-wide initiatives while meeting the unique needs of the Longview community. This position plays a key role in cultivating a compassionate, mission-driven culture and ensuring the effective delivery of municipal sheltering contracts. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $82,000 - $90,000. The starting pay within that range is dependent upon experience. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Culture Provide visible, value-driven leadership that builds trust, teamwork, and accountability. Serve as the on-site leadership representative and conduit between the Longview and Vancouver campuses. Operational Management Oversee daily operations across Animal Care, Adoptions, Population & Pathways, Shelter Medicine, Foster, Volunteer, and Transport functions. Ensure compliance with HSSW policies and procedures, ASV Guidelines, and all municipal and regulatory requirements. Establish clear expectations and priorities, delegate effectively, and hold teams accountable for performance and outcomes. Promote excellent customer service, ensuring that every guest and partner receives compassionate, professional support. Strategic Execution & Improvement Partner with the VP of Operations to set measurable goals, identify operational challenges, and drive process improvements. Use data and performance metrics to inform decisions, monitor results, and ensure efficient use of resources. Act as a change leader—anticipating needs, addressing barriers, and fostering innovation in animal care and operations. Collaboration & Representation Build and maintain productive relationships with internal teams, volunteers, municipal partners, donors, and community stakeholders. Represent HSSW in meetings, public events, and community engagements as requested. Support consistent communication and coordination across departments and campuses. Staff Development & Safety Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors and team members to strengthen skills and leadership capacity. Ensure a safe, healthy, and supportive workplace for all staff, volunteers, and animals. Address performance concerns promptly and fairly, in partnership with People & Culture. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including leadership or operations management (animal welfare or nonprofit preferred). Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop diverse teams through collaboration and accountability. Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills with attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to varied audiences. High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning new software systems. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. Working Conditions Primarily on-site at the Longview Campus, including animal shelter, clinic, and administrative environments. Regular exposure to allergens, animals of various species and conditions, cleaning agents, noise, and emotionally charged situations. Frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally travel to Vancouver Campus or other HSSW locations for meetings and training.
