POSITION SUMMARY:

The Campus Safety Monitor is responsible for the general safety of the building and the students, staff, and visitors in alignment with the Framingham Public Schools Code of Character, Conduct, and Support. The Campus Safety Monitor is responsible for monitoring hallways, restrooms and exterior areas of the campus, redirecting students and visitors to assigned locations,checking the validity of individuals credentials and students passes,and supporting the safe operation of the building. The Campus Safety Monitor supports Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.
The FHS Academy - Evening at Thayer Campus is designed to provide students with flexible access to credit-bearing coursework in a hybrid learning environment that meets their academic, personal, and logistical needs. The program blends asynchronous instruction with structured in-person support, offering students a pathway to success outside of the traditional school day.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with adolescents and young adults as a coach or mentor and/or a background in criminal justice, sociology, or security-related field is preferred.
Experience and training in de-escalation strategy and/or restorative justice is desirable.
Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with standard procedure and prior instructions; exercises independent judgment to handle emergency situations. Safety professionals will be expected to respond to situations, de-escalate, and then call for administrative support. This professional will complete district determined trainings in de-escalation, response to crisis, and other relevant content areas.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To write accurate, clear, and concise documentation when requested:

    • Incident Reports
  • Accident Reports
  • Daily Incident Logs
  • Fire Reports
  • Effectively handle undesirable persons without undue interruption of the orderly flow of the school operations. Follow proper trespass procedures when necessary.
  • Ensure that FPS Standard Operating Procedures are followed.
  • Monitor, understand, and have working knowledge of the fire alarm system.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other departments, outside agencies, and the Administration.
  • Monitor hallways and building spaces via walks of the school building, public areas, work areas, storage rooms, and outside perimeter to identify and address health and safety concerns.
  • Document problems, discrepancies, and unusual activities and observations in the Daily Incident Log and/or incident report and report to the appropriate administrator; take immediate action when necessary.
  • Monitor pedestrian traffic entering and exiting the building through all entrances.
  • Assist with shipping & receiving duties when necessary.
  • Report and document safety hazards and improper lighting conditions and report all findings to the Building Administration and the Director of Safety and Security.
  • Use proper two-way & telephone procedures, etiquette during all transmissions in accordance with FPS guidelines and walkie protocols.
  • Report security breaches to the Building Administration and the Director of Safety and Security.
  • Assist in energy conservation when possible.
  • Assist the Building Administration and the Director of Safety and Security during disasters or in the event of emergencies.


    • Know, understand and follow Emergency Response Plan.

    • Maintain First Responder certifications and perform when necessary. Assist with on-site medical emergencies. If chosen candidate does not have certification, there is an opportunity to take the course through Framingham Public Schools.
    • Perform job requests assigned by the Building Administration and the Director of Safety and Security in safety and security-related matters.
    • Perform basic functions related to the Security Office as:


      • Monitoring CCTVs and the radio

      • Monitoring Life Safety System & duress - contact alarm panels
      • Dispatching safety / security officers to appropriate locations in order of priority
      • Maintaining control and distribution of visitor badges
      • Other duties as assigned by Building Administrator or their designee
