POSITION SUMMARY…

As a key leader within Walmart Canada’s Ethics & Compliance team reporting directly to the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer, this position provides strategic leadership for the company’s compliance programs across a broad portfolio of risk areas: (a) marketplace, ecommerce platform compliance, (b) health & wellness and healthcare services, including future health care initiatives, (c) compliance programs associated with Walmart Canada digitial advertising (Connect) and data ventures business, (d) anti-trust compliance, (e) consumer protection, (f) anti-money laundering and financial services compliance, and (g) product safety, trade compliance and responsible sourcing.
The role is responsible for ensuring that systems, policies, procedures, controls, training and monitoring are established, in partnership with business stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and technical standards, minimize the company’s exposure to adverse events, build trust among stakeholders, facilitate effective engagement with appropriate regulatory agencies and inspire a customer-focused culture of compliance and trust throughout the organization. Finally, the role is also responsible for supporting the CECO as the market’s co-champion for Enterprise Risk Management.

1. Sets the strategic direction for, and oversees the initiation, design and implementation of systems, policies, procedures, controls, training and monitoring for the purpose of minimizing the company’s exposure to adverse events, and building stakeholder trust, relating to Walmart Canada’s operations in connection with all aspects of: (a) marketplace, ecommerce platform compliance, (b) health & wellness and healthcare services, including future health care initiatives, (c) compliance programs associated with Walmart Canada digital advertising (Connect) and data ventures business, (d) anti-trust compliance, (e) consumer protection, (f) anti-money laundering and financial services compliance, and (g) product safety, trade compliance and responsible sourcing.
2. Prepares and delivers company level reports and presentations that communicating status of compliance initiatives related to applicable subject matter areas to senior leadership, identifying risks and communicating and obtaining operational support for compliance initiatives.
3. Builds and deepens relationships with key senior management across the organization in order to embed and enable a business-led tone from the top and business-driven acceleration of Ethics & Compliance programs.
4. Articulates corporate positions on applicable matters to regulators and external agencies and directs involvement with regulators at federal, provincial and municipal levels to ensure operational compliance with all legal requirements.
5. Develops external relationships and alliances strengthening the company’s reputation within compliance community and leads regulatory outreach meetings, ensuring that the company’s programs, policies, procedures and reports are communicated in a persuasive, accurate and understandable way and that sensitive data is protected.
6. Drives Canada’s compliance team involvement with Walmart’s global compliance teams, developing relationships and ensuring that the company’s compliance programs, policies, procedures and reporting are consistent with global direction and leverage global talent and resources.
7. Supports the CECO as market co-champion for Enterprise Risk Management, driving risk identification and appropriate remediation with key senior stakeholders across the business.
8. Supports the CECO in championing innovation and the implementation of technologies to future-proof Canada’s Ethics & Compliance programs to support an evolving business and risk environment.
   Qualifications:
   Education & Experience : A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience is required, along with a Law degree, CPA, or equivalent professional designation preferred.
   Leadership & Strategy : Proven ability to set strategic direction and lead the design, implementation, and oversight of compliance programs across diverse areas such as marketplace operations, healthcare services, digital advertising, anti-trust, consumer protection, and financial services. Demonstrated success in leading high-performing teams, fostering a culture of integrity and accountability, and mentoring senior professionals is also essential for success in the role.
   Communication & Influence : Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build consensus across departments, influence senior leadership, and represent the company in regulatory and external stakeholder engagements.
   Enterprise Risk Management : Experience supporting enterprise risk management initiatives, including risk identification, mitigation planning, and cross-functional collaboration with senior stakeholders.
   Global & Cross-Functional Collaboration : Demonstrated success in aligning local compliance programs with global standards and leveraging international resources to enhance program effectiveness.
