Camp YMCA Kanawana is Québec’s oldest residential summer camp, offering innovative programming and traditional YMCA values-based camping. Camp YMCA Kanawana’s Hike and Trip program has the goal of providing safe and fun wilderness camping experiences while teaching skills and confidence to children and youth from all over the world. Camp YMCA Kanawana is located on a gorgeous 550-acre site in the Laurentians that includes three lakes and a network of wooded trails. Our expedition program sends children and youth on multi-day canoe trips on beautiful lakes and rivers in Ontario and Quebec. The guide`s mandate will be to manage, plan, prepare, and supervise canoe trips. WHY JOIN THE YMCA? WHAT CHALLENGES WILL YOU TACKLE? Plan, lead and organise 4-to-21-day canoe trips in terms of food, equipment, programming and safety in a wilderness context Manage and supervise all aspects of camping logistics Ensure all activities are safe and respect the required safety measures/protocols Manage equipment appropriately Supervise participants in a safe context in terms of health, safety and the execution of the proposed programming Engage with and develop connections with campers Ensure proper communication and follow-up with team members, directors, and coordinators Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures regarding the protection of children and vulnerable peoplearticipants to various activities, mainly in remote areas for canoe trips. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Has at least two years of experience in outdoor education in a day camp or wilderness class facilitation, or in a similar field (an asset) Has a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and White-water Rescue Technician (WRT) certifications (offered if needed) Fluency in spoken and written French (required). Fluency in spoken and written English (required based on operational needs related to clientele and communications).
