We are seeking a proven leader in infrastructure maintenance – someone who brings a strong commitment to Zero Harm, a drive for operational excellence, and the ability to build and maintain meaningful stakeholder relationships and passionate about growing their teams. As the Canterbury Maintenance Contract Manager, you will play a pivotal leadership role across our Canterbury operations, guiding teams and contracts to deliver high-performance outcomes for Downer and our clients.
In this role, you’ll lead the delivery of critical maintenance contracts, drive best practice across safety, quality, and performance, and contribute to the growth and success of Downer’s operations in the Canterbury region. You’ll play a key part in our regional leadership team, fostering collaboration across teams and delivering value to both our clients and communities

You’ll need to be a collaborative leader who strives for excellence and balances it with your adaptable communication style. You will be a successful people leader with the ability to coach and mentor team members whilst driving operational site work to ensure quality, completion of work to schedule and minimal rework. We’d also value:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent in engineering, construction, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of roading asset maintenance and operations
  • Demonstrated success in project or contract management within infrastructure
  • Proven commercial acumen and business development experience
  • A leadership style that inspires, empowers, and delivers results
  • Ability to influence and negotiate effectively with clients and sub-contractorsProven track record in developing a culture that supports SQE management, encouraging and rewarding excellence

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the delivery of maintenance contracts within budget and to schedule
  • Ensure all contractual obligations are met, including project scope, timelines, and quality standards
  • Contribute to regional and national business planning
  • Support the Canterbury Regional Manager in service delivery and contract performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers
  • Manage financial performance to achieve key result areas and performance framework targetsChampion a safety-first culture by embedding Zero Harm principles in all activities
