Description
As a Capital Accountant for Ryman Hospitality Properties (RHP), you'll perform accounting and reporting functions for capital projects and fixed assets. You will perform general accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, monthly reporting, and fixed asset transactions, while applying accounting policies and guidance to determine capitalization eligibility, in-service timing, and useful lives. In collaboration with project managers, you'll ensure accurate accounting of capital projects and support capital budgeting and forecasting. Reports to Manager of Capital Accounting.   * Ensure project accounting transactions are within approved budget and company policy. Review capital expenses submitted internally and through third-party data feeds. Apply all applicable policies and accounting guidance to determine whether expenses qualify for capitalization. * Ensure fixed assets are accounted for in accordance with internal accounting policies and GAAP. Ensure fixed asset subledger is accurate through proper assignment of useful lives, asset classifications, and in-service dates. Record asset additions, adjustments, transfers, and disposals every month. * Prepare monthly CIP reconciliations and fixed asset reporting. Prepare quarterly rollforwards for CIP and fixed assets, SEC reporting schedules, and other periodic reporting information. * Record monthly depreciation and amortization expenses and prepare variance analysis compared to budget and forecast. Prepare future period D&A projections as requested for budgeting and forecasting. * Ensure fixed asset and project subledgers are reconciled to the general ledger. Prepare and record monthly capital accounting entries and quarterly CIP accruals. * Monitor capital spending compared to budget and prepare capital budget reports monthly. Notify project managers and supervisors promptly regarding exceptions. * Prepare and maintain capital project listing by frequently communicating with project managers and third-party asset managers to obtain project and asset details such as in-service dates. Ensure capital project listing is complete and accurate. * Review new project and budget transfer requests to ensure documentation and approvals are complete and accurate. Communicate exceptions promptly to project managers. Upload and maintain all capital budgets in Oracle. * Responsible for compliance with departmental Sarbanes Oxley controls, including maintaining monthly close documentation. Assist with internal and external audit requests. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education * Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience required Experience * 2+ years' experience in accounting Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail * Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple concurrent workstreams while meeting critical deadlines * Proficient with Microsoft Office applications with advanced Microsoft Excel skills * Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support business needs   Physical Requirements Speak and hear to communicate and use both near and far vision. Frequently sit with some walking and standing for office/property navigation. Frequently lift/carry up to 5 lbs. Continually use gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills for computer use.   Working Conditions In-office position based in a corporate environment with individual workspaces and shared common areas which support focused work while encouraging regular interaction among colleagues. Moderate background noise typical of a collaborative office setting.
