Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of construction project delivery, including design-build, CM, and general contracting models.
  • Strong grasp of building systems (MEP, structural, architectural) and applicable codes and standards.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, prioritize competing demands, and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project), MS Office, and CAD tools.
  • Ability to identify and resolve project risks and conflicts quickly and effectively.
  • General knowledge of construction contract law, CCDC documents, CCAC documents, public tendering practicing including use of BC Bid, bonding, and surety, bid depository rules and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of project scheduling and coordination.
  • Thorough knowledge of current building technology for architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines. Thorough knowledge of materials and methods used in building construction.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
  • Exemplary skills in planning, organizing, prioritizing, scheduling, and implementation.
  • Able to make independent decisions and use sound judgment in applying TWU policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs. to provide hands-on support as needed by the department.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

STANDARDS & REQUIREMENTS

Education: Business or related degree preferred and/or related work experience. PMP credential preferred. Formal training in project management or procurement an asset. Professional certification such as FMA, CFM, PEng, MCIP, MAIBC, or AScTT;
Experience: 3 – 4 years in a progressive administrative or analytical support role, preferably within the construction, facility management or education sector. Project Management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

Trinity Western University (TWU) is seeking a Project Manager to lead the planning and execution of capital projects—including new construction and major renovations—across our campuses. Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Campus Operations and supervising the Project Lead, this role is responsible for the delivery of high-impact projects that align with TWU’s strategic goals and Campus Master Plan (CMP).
This position will manage the full lifecycle of assigned capital projects from concept through to completion, including budgeting, procurement, risk mitigation, scheduling, commissioning, and quality control. The Project Manager will act as the primary liaison between consultants, contractors, internal stakeholders, and TWU leadership. The Project Manager exercises considerable independence of judgment and action in order to maintain project budgets and schedules for several projects simultaneously.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Capital Projects

  • Lead and deliver multiple concurrent new construction and renovation projects across TWU campuses.
  • Supervise and support the Project Lead position; delegate tasks and review progress on assigned projects.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules in collaboration with the AVP of Campus Operations.
  • Coordinate and manage design consultants, engineers, contractors, and other external partners.
  • Ensure alignment with the Campus Master Planning initiative and space optimization goals.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and user group consultations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track key milestones, manage project documentation, and drive projects to timely and successful completion.
  • Conduct project risk assessments and establish mitigation strategies.
  • Establish and maintain digital and physical files including asset listing, drawings (incl. scanning and printing), inventory of furniture assets.
  • Review, and process departmental/project invoices to TWU Accounts Payable
  • Liaise with stakeholders regarding moves and assist with logistics.
  • Drives the commissioning process ensuring what was designed, and paid for, was constructed.
  • Interprets and complies with codes, regulations, bylaws, and all applicable legislation relating to the facilities.
  • In Conjunction with the Facility Services Team, develops standards for facility renovations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the AVP of Campus Operations

Contractor & Vendor Management

  • Prepare and evaluate RFPs/RFIs, review bids, and recommend awards.
  • Oversee contractor performance, monitor quality of workmanship, and ensure adherence to TWU and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain contractor and vendor assessment records and recommend future partnerships based on performance.

  • Completing vendor and contractor assessments on a recurring basis

Departmental Support

  • Collaborate with AVP on financial planning and cost control strategies.
  • Track project expenditures, approve invoices, and maintain financial documentation.
  • Support and co-operate with other Campus Operations Departments including Security, Ancillaries, and Facility Services as required.
