Responsibilities

The role of the CAR-T Coordinator is to promote best practice and ensure that patients undergoing immune cellular therapies receive safe, coordinated, and evidence-based care across their entire treatment journey. The CAR-T Coordinator will work closely with the inpatient and outpatient teams within RNSH and external stakeholders to provide a comprehensive, seamless and specialised service.

The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 (CNC2) position is to lead and coordinate the nursing component of the CAR-T and Immune Effector Cells (IEC) therapy program by:

  • Leading the clinical development and integration of CAR-T treatment pathways into existing haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) workflows.
  • Coordinate patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring appropriate triage, assessment, and transition to and from CAR-T therapy.
  • Educating patients, families, and carers across the continuum of care, including pre-treatment preparation, toxicity awareness, and follow-up care.
  • Providing expert clinical leadership in the identification and management of CAR-T-specific complications, including cytokine release syndrome and ICANS.
  • Managing clinical logistics and coordination of treatment timelines, including collaboration with pharmaceutical partners for CAR-T product manufacturing, delivery, and infusion tracking.
  • Designing and delivering formal and informal education programs to build workforce capability in CAR-T therapies across NSLHD and regional networks.

The CAR-T Coordinator is required to work collaboratively with a wide multidisciplinary team including haematologists, ICU staff, pharmacy, allied health, apheresis, laboratory, and research teams. The CAR-T Coordinator must fulfil the five domains of clinical nurse consultancy.
