Competently perform complete echocardiographic studies integrating all cardiac echo imaging modalities and procedures necessary to obtain all pertinent patient data. Document patient data and echo exam information completely and accurately utilizing the Echo Information Management System and other necessary computer applications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Function independently while using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to obtain a comprehensive echocardiogram.
  • Collaborate with Lead Cardiac Sonographers, Advanced Cardiac Sonographers, Echocardiographers, Physicians, and other team members to assist in interpretation of echocardiographic findings.
  • Assist in the orientation, training, and education of all levels of trainees, students, and visitors assigned to Cardiovascular Services.
  • Expectations include stress lab and stress echo lab procedures, outreach, on-call practices, weekends, evenings, and holiday coverage as needed.
  • Be available for 24-hour call within a 30-minute response time.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality care appropriately to the age of the patient, including neonate to geriatric patient populations.
  • Exhibit flexibility in learning all equipment, imaging specialties, and echocardiography procedures.
  • Understand sterile procedures and isolation precaution techniques and exercise proper precautions to avoid potential exposures to radiation, infectious hazards, and sharp instruments.
  • Accountable for demonstrating proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate competencies list.
  • Must be able to tolerate frequent walking, standing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder level and endure occasional twisting and turning.
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to hear at an ordinary conversation level and possess good visual acuity.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven ability to work with co-workers, physicians, and all levels of healthcare professionals.
  • Knowledge of cardiac pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, and patient care procedures.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • One (1) year of cardiac experience is preferred and be registry eligible.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in adult and pediatric cardiac sonography including experience with transesophageal and stress echo.
  • Experience with outreach services helpful.

Required Education

  • One of the following is required: Associates degree or Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited sonography program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • ARDMS-Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) OR CCI-Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
