Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to members supporting and promoting their independence choice, dignity and overall wellbeing.
  • Care activities will include but not be restricted to the following.
  • Washing, showering, bathing
  • Promoting continence and assisting with toileting
  • Assisting with dressing
  • Assisting with food and fluid intake
  • Mobility
  • Ensuring that they are aware of and participate in developing Person-Centred Care Plans with the Named Nurse and the Member.

Particular attention must be paid to having full awareness of any special support needs, for example:

  • Use of moving and handling equipment, wheelchairs and any specific mobility aid required by a member
  • Dietary needs, specialist aids for eating or drinking, and choke risk.
  • Any medical issues for example diabetes
  • Communication needs used Cultural needs Chosen daily routine
  • Care will be provided in line with each member’s Personal Care Plan.
  • The Care Assistant will liaise with the relevant Manager, registered Nurse or Care Coordinator to help facilitate any changes in the Care Plan.
  • Providing ongoing support for the members, their family and the Nursing Team. This includes liaising with the members and their family to ensure they have supplies of personal clothing and grooming or beauty products that the member prefers to use.
  • This also includes liaison with the laundry staff to ensure all clothing is laundered.
  • Ensure all equipment is stored in line with the manufacturers’ instructions and is cleaned and stored appropriately after use.
  • Faults will be reported and recorded in the maintenance log, with equipment taken out of action to promote members’ safety.
  • Participate in members’ activities and events held at the Loveday & Co home.
  • The Care Assistant has a duty of care to respond to and provide support for requests for help, including emergency calls.
  • Embrace opportunity to develop skills and provide wider services and support actions to members, for example, blood pressure monitoring, urine analysis and support medication administration.
  • Closely monitor and report on members’ daily progress, ensuring all observations and interventions are documented in line with the required service standards, including completing fluid balance charts, nutritional intake records, turn charts as required.
  • Support members to create a homely environment in their individual suites, assisting with organising their environment to promote wellbeing and independence.
  • Support and participate in the development of meaningful activities and therapies for members. This may include supporting members to attend chosen home activities within the community, for example, shopping, attending GP and using sports facilities.
  • Attend initial and updated mandatory training as required, and actively engage in clinical or professional supervision including one-to-one meetings and yearly reviews, ensuring personal professional knowledge and competency is maintained.
  • At all times support a learning culture.
  • Work flexibility within contracted hours (days, nights, weekends, bank holidays) to ensure resources are used efficiently and, where chosen, sign an opt-out clause under Working Time Directives.
  • Wear the provided staff uniforms in order to reflect a positive Loveday & Co image in line with the Loveday and Co Appearance Policy and Procedure.
