Care:
1. Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting service users, when required, with washing/bathing, toileting, undressing and all other aspects of daily living.
2. Assist service users in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide attention when needed, whilst ensuring service users retain their comfort and dignity.
3. Pay particular attention to those service users who have limited mobility or physical difficulties, making the best use of aids provided.
4. Closely monitor service users who may be confused.
5. Assist in the promotion of continence.
6. Assist in the delivery of care for service users who are dying or who have a progressive illness.
7. Observe care planning needs for service users and complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.
8. Answer nurse call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and the telephone appropriately when required, respond accordingly and pass on messages promptly.
9. Under the supervision of the senior care assistant, report on the well-being of service users.
10. Carry out regular checks on service users at intervals.
11. Make visitors feel welcome; provide refreshments/assistance as and when required.
12. Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, commodes are empty.
13. Clean and maintain equipment used by service users, e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the home is kept clean and tidy.
14. Care for service users clothing and rooms as named on the key worker list.
15. Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved.
16. Assist service users who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc). Assist with serving of food and drinks when requested/required.
17. Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with service user’s personal affairs and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with service users.
Communication:
18. Participate in staff and residents meetings as and when required.
Training & Development:
19. Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
20. Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
21. Participate in relevant NVQ training to achieve required qualifications.
Health & Safety:
22. Report immediately to the Home Manager or person in charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a service user, colleague, self or another.
23. Understand and ensure the implementation of the Care Home’s Health & Safety policy and the Emergency & Fire procedures.
24. Report to the Home Manager or Estate Manager any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or potential hazard.
25. Promote safe working within the Care Home.
General
26. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Home.
27. Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
28. Notify the Home Manager or the person in charge as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
29. Ensure the security of the Home is maintained at all times.
30. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined time scales.
31. Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
32. Carry all other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
