Casual Care Attendant – Resource Pool Location: UPMC Williamsport Status: Casual Shift: Rotating Days & Nights (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) Schedule: Requires 2 holidays per year Floating Differential: Includes a 10%25 floating differential – apply today to learn more! Note: Final candidates will be offered a job title within the career ladder based on education, experience, and manager discretion. Purpose: The Care Attendant provides limited patient care and observation services under the direction of a nurse or physician, in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role supports a safe and healing environment and contributes to high-quality patient care through direct interaction and assistance with daily activities. Key Responsibilities: Patient Care & Observation: Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning/repositioning, and transporting patients. Provide one-on-one companionship and supervision as needed. Support fall prevention and psychiatric observation protocols. Safety & Environment: Maintain a clean and safe patient environment by performing safety checks, organizing rooms, cleaning equipment, changing linens, and emptying hampers. Report equipment malfunctions promptly. Support Services: Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment to support patient care. Perform messenger functions, stock rooms, and assist with patient nourishment, water pitchers, and mail delivery. Communication & Teamwork: Communicate effectively with the healthcare team. Build respectful relationships with patients and colleagues. Respond to call lights, phones, and assist with meal trays and patient transport. Documentation & Clerical Tasks: Document care activities in the medical record according to procedures. Complete clerical functions as needed. Understand and follow safety protocols, including standard precautions and bloodborne pathogen policies. Professional Development: Accept feedback constructively and identify learning needs. Seek assistance with planning and prioritizing tasks. Participate in self-review and support departmental changes and quality initiatives. If no previous patient care training, successful completion of UPMC care attendant(sitter) training program Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
