Purpose of the Role
The Quality Assurance Manager and Compliance Manager will ensure that all Guyatt House Care services meet and exceed regulatory, contractual, and organisational standards. This is not an office-based, back-seat role you will be regularly present in our care services, reviewing every aspect of what we do, from frontline delivery to management oversight, to ensure that excellence is embedded at every level. You will also work from our offices, using this time to analyse data, prepare reports, collaborate with colleagues, and plan strategic improvement initiatives.
You will lead inspections, audits, and improvement planning, while acting as a bridge between the SMT and frontline workers, ensuring that expectations are clearly understood, implemented, and sustained in daily practice.
You will report directly to the Head of Quality Assurance and work closely with the Head of Operations and the Board. From February, the Head of Quality Assurance will commence maternity leave for 12 months. This will give you a detailed induction period and the opportunity to step into full responsibility for the Head of Quality Assurance role during their absence, with the scope to take on this position permanently in the future.
This is a hands-on role requiring analytical expertise, excellent written and verbal communication, strong training delivery skills, and the ability to engage with people in a warm, constructive, and values-led way. You must be creative, innovative, and persistent, with a clear vision of what Outstanding care looks like and the drive to deliver it consistently for every person we support.
Key Responsibilities
 Conduct a minimum of four full quality inspections per month across our 30 services, in line with CQC standards and internal quality frameworks. These inspections will mirror the full scope and methodology of a CQC inspection, supported by our internal software platform which replicates CQC’s processes and evidence requirements
 Take the lead during CQC inspections, ensuring services are prepared, compliant, and able to evidence outstanding practice.
 Lead organisational responses and coordination during local authority and Social Services inspections, including those in partnership with Quality Assurance and Contract Managers in Cambridgeshire and other commissioning areas.
 Safeguard and maintain our Outstanding CQC ratings across all services through proactive quality assurance and continuous improvement.
 Develop, manage, and oversee comprehensive audit and compliance schedules to monitor service quality, safety, and effectiveness.
 Build and maintain reporting dashboards within the Access system so regional teams can evidence compliance effectively this will require basic coding knowledge for custom reporting functions.
 Analyse complex audit data, identify trends, and prepare clear, evidence-based reports for the SMT and operational leaders.
 Lead on the creation and monitoring of Service Improvement Plans following audits, inspections, or regulatory findings.
 Deliver engaging, practical training to managers, team leaders, and frontline workers on compliance, quality standards, and best practice in complex care.
 Work with HR colleagues to address and manage underperformance, ensuring improvement plans are supportive, fair, and values-driven.
 Support and mentor Registered Managers, team leaders, and frontline colleagues to achieve sustained compliance and service excellence.
 Collaborate with internal psychology, psychotherapy, and PBS teams to address complex service delivery challenges.
 Ensure effective and consistent use of Access for Care Compliance, People HR, Analytics, Policies and Procedures, and Learning &
Development.
 Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and sector best practice in learning disability, autism, and mental health services.
 Represent the Quality & Governance function at SMT meetings, presenting performance reports, risk assessments, and progress on improvement plans.
 Promote and embed a culture of continuous improvement that is positive, respectful, and aligned to the organisation’s values. Incident Management, Safeguarding & Risk Oversight
 Lead on organisational responses to incidents
 Oversee safeguarding processes in collaboration with regional teams, ensuring timely and robust responses to all concerns.
 Support services with Section 42 safeguarding enquiries, contract notices of concern, or any enforcement actions (noting that, to date, Guyatt House Care has had none).
 Carry out Level 1 Serious Case Reviews, producing detailed, evidence- based reports, and present findings and recommendations directly to the Board.
 Ensure risk assessments are comprehensive, dynamic, and focused on delivering positive outcomes for the people we support, embedding learning into practice across all services.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential:
 Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a quality, compliance, or governance role within health or social care.
 Demonstrable experience of conducting inspections, audits, and investigations in regulated care settings.
 Proven track record of leading services through CQC and local authority inspections with successful outcomes.
 Strong understanding of CQC’s inspection framework and the Health & Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
 Confident trainer with experience delivering workshops, coaching sessions, and knowledge-sharing with managers and frontline staff.
 High level of computer literacy, with advanced Microsoft Office skills and the ability to work with complex databases and reporting systems.
 Basic coding knowledge to support creation of customised reports in Access.
 Proven ability to analyse large volumes of data, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
 Skilled in engaging and influencing colleagues at all levels, from frontline support workers to senior executives.
 Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively.
Desirable:
 Master’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Health & Social Care Management, Quality Improvement, Public Health).
 Professional qualification in Health & Social Care, Nursing, Social Work, or allied health profession.
 Experience in services for people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex mental health needs.
