The successful candidate will play a vital role in promoting the client’s safety, independence, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life through structured support, positive behaviour strategies, and consistent engagement. This position requires previous experience in Autism and learning disability, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one support to the client in their home and community settings.
  • Supporting the client during crises, using de-escalation and calming strategies.
  • Implementing positive behaviour support strategies and following agreed care and risk management plans.
  • Assisting the client with daily living activities, routines, and developing independent living skills.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and helping the client manage anxiety, frustration, and sensory sensitivities.
  • Preparing nutritious meals in line with the client’s dietary needs and preferences.
  • Encouraging structured activities, social engagement, and healthy coping strategies.
  • Providing companionship and emotional reassurance to promote wellbeing and stability.
  • Maintaining a safe environment, responding appropriately to incidents of challenging behaviour.
  • Keeping accurate records of care, behaviour observations, and incident reports.
  • Communicating effectively with families, healthcare professionals, and the wider care team regarding the client’s wellbeing and any changes in behaviour or mental health.

Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD, or complex mental health needs.
  • Experience working with individuals who display challenging behaviours or emotional dysregulation.
  • Training in de-escalation, or behaviour management (desirable).
  • A strong understanding of person-centred care and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong observation and reporting skills to monitor behaviour and wellbeing.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a care team.
  • A compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach to supporting vulnerable individuals.
