CAREER COUNSELLOR

1.0 FTE – Temporary (end date is currently unknown)
Salary Range: $62,780 - $78,478 per year
The Simcoe County District School Board, Adult and Continuing Education Department, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Career Counsellor for the Career Centre located in Barrie, Ontario with services delivered in Barrie and surrounding area. Working directly with the Coordinator, the Career Counsellor operates in a results-oriented environment and is accountable for providing outcome-based employment services to employers and job searchers. The Career Counsellor is responsible for developing and case managing individualized employment plans which may include negotiating training incentives and training programs with employers and/or determining appropriate employment supports and working non-traditional hours to service the diverse needs of employers and/or job searchers. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate evidence of individualized employment services in databases and obtaining necessary proof of employment from clients on an ongoing basis to document services and outcomes; facilitation of group sessions; referrals to community resources; participation in appropriate community-based activities and cold-calling and/or on-site employer assessments and employer monitoring visits.

Qualifications Skills and Experience:

  • Two (2) year college diploma in career counselling, sociology, or a related field with practicum, or equivalent, plus two (2) years related experience in youth and adult employment service, job development, community development or continuing education;
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet organizational demands;
  • Computer skills in MS Office, Outlook, Internet, Smart Board, databases, Zoom and LinkedIn;
  • Knowledge of the local labour market, community resources and government programs and services;
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner is preferred;
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence and reliable personal vehicle; kilometer reimbursement at SCDSB approved rates.

This is a full-time temporary position. The regular work year for this position is twelve (12) months of the year. The compensation range for this twelve (12) month position is $62,780 to $78,478 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The normal work week for this position is thirty-five (35) hours.
