SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; planning and managing projects; analyzing; effective listening; facilitating meetings; guiding others; monitoring activities; problem solving; planning; labor market trends; and counseling techniques.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: college entry requirements; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; community resources; current and emerging technology; working as a team member and counseling skills.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. PURPOSE STATEMENT
The job of Career Counselor is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for providing students with information on career and/or post high school educational opportunities appropriate to the students abilities, aptitudes and interests; administering and interpreting career assessment tools; planning onsite presentations by college and/or career representatives; and working with parents, teachers, administrators and community personnel to meet the needs of students.
This job reports to the Principal.
