Essential Functions (Key Responsibilities): Student-focused * Provide career counseling, coaching, and advising for students within the designated college through various formats, including drop-in interactions, individual appointments, group meetings, mentorships, presentations/workshops, and career fair navigation & attendance. * Conduct formal and informal career assessments to help students understand the relationship between self-knowledge and major/career choice. * Empower students to make informed choices relating to selecting a major/career field and to develop realistic implementation plans through providing relevant occupational, educational, and employment information to explore a wide range of major/career options. * Initiate dialogue with incoming/potential students focused on initial major/career guidance. * Collaborate with Student Success on relaying career opportunities to students and sharing assessment results with the students’ Success Coach. * Increase awareness and promotion of experiential learning, internships, and shadowing opportunities for students including creating & distributing weekly digital newsletters for the college. * Improve student preparedness for job search activities and professionalism in the workplace. * Teach job searching methods and assist students with mock interviews, cover letters, resumes, elevator pitches, graduate school material preparation, negotiation skills, networking, etc.   College & Community liaison * Represent CCDPE career services to students in assigned liaison area, with a focus on relationship-building within the designated college faculty and staff. * Keep current on best practices and industry trends of finding internships/jobs, applying for graduate school, and other specialized topics of interest within designated career clusters/college. * Support faculty curriculum in career readiness topics through delivering presentations to students and faculty on career development topics, job search strategies, and industry trends.  * Build connections with faculty and employers to source experiential learning opportunities for students. * Communicate with faculty and student support staff (Success Coaches) about students, events, and upcoming career opportunities.   Department Support * Collaborate with academic and student support administrators, specifically with Faculty Mentors and Student Success Coaches. * Participate in relevant Career Center, Success Center, and other University events and programs. * Support data collection for the First Destination Survey, internship placements, and over programs of the Center and technology used to track information (12twenty, WriteSea, etc).     Required Qualifications:   Knowledge/Skill/Ability           Equivalent Education/Experience          * Ability to work in a team environment, problem solve, collaborate, and provide superior customer service. * Strong presentation skills, written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and computer skills. * Experience with various applications used in higher education for content delivery, academic advising, student support & retention, and communication (Canva, Handshake, 12twenty, WriteSea, FOCUS 2, etc) * Ability to work with individuals from different backgrounds and maintain elevated levels of confidentiality. * High attention to detail, demonstrated practice of establishing effective priorities and meeting deadlines.   * Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required; Master’s degree preferred. * GCDF coaching certification required, or able to obtain certification within 6 months of hiring. * Must have 1 year of relevant experience in teaching, higher education, public relations, customer service, or equivalent; 3 years preferred. * Industry-specific experience is preferred. * Previous experience working in a student support, admissions, or advising office preferred. * Knowledge of principles and practices of career development and job search techniques preferred.   Special Job Dimensions: Requires working with highly sensitive or confidential information; Occasional evening events and presentations may occur.  Note: The essential job functions and associated qualifications contained in this document describe the general nature and level of the work performed. Responsibilities
The Career Counselor provides comprehensive career coaching, advising, and mentorship to students to assist with major selection and professional development. They also act as a liaison between the university, faculty, and employers to facilitate internships, experiential learning, and job search preparedness.
