Description:
EDUCATION:
Completion of a University degree or equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum two years (2) years of recent relevant experience in human resources recruitment, experiential education, career development/coaching or in a professional search firm performing recruitment activities or experience working in a career center or internship/co-op setting. Experience with designing and facilitating career readiness workshops. Preference will be given to candidates that have prior experience in career coaching and in-depth knowledge of employer recruitment practices. This role requires the incumbent to have experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders (i.e. including students, employers, alumni, staff and faculty).
SKILLS:
Coaching, advising or mentoring experience.
Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate knowledge of trends in employer hiring practices, current labour market conditions and student and career development theories.
Certified Coach credential (accredited by the ICF- International Coaching Federation) preferred.
Strong presentation, facilitation and public speaking skills, inclduing experience and knowledge in developing workshops and associated materials.
Customer service oriented.
Ability to cultiveate, build and maintain strong relationships.
Excellent organizational, project and event management and time management skills to cope with multiple projects and events occurring within short and overlapping time periods.
Ability to manage conflicting demands, and work well under pressure.
Written communication in the form of reports and submitting content for marketing materials.
Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
Advanced computer skills including Microsoft 365, sourcing information and data using the Internet and social media sites such as LinkedIn.
Exposure to customized relationship management databases is preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to working as a team player.
Ability to handle confidential material.
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and adaptability.

Responsibilities:
The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 25 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Experiential Education, the Career Education Coordinator will support LA&PS students in their career exploration and preparation by coaching students with regards to job search skills, articulating relevant experience to employers, and developing job leads. This includes providing outstanding service delivery to students through workshops, company information sessions, one-on-one sessions, networking events and webinars. The Career Education Coordinator organizes and facilitates a variety of workshops, including those for the promotion of the program, and for purposes of work-force preparation. This role includes developing in-depth knowledge of employer recruitment processes and job postings to support students with preparing competitive applications. The Career Education Coordinator also provides input in the development of the Faculty’s experiential education programs and provides information to students regarding career development process, including guidance on self-assessment, making informed career decisions, creating and marketing their personal brands, on-the job success strategies and their transition into the workforce. A key aspect of this role involves working collaboratively with experiential education and Career Centre colleagues across the University to maximize service delivery for LA&PS students. The Career Education Coordinator will support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement.
