Purpose of this role
This role(s) is an important, operational interface with students seeking a work placement as part of their academic programme, either credit bearing or not.
The role will also work with graduates to help them find employment.
Objectives

The objectives of this role are to

  • Liaise with employers to source work placement for students.
  • Advertise student employment opportunities across all DBS Careers communications channels.
  • Work with students to help prepare them for employment and job interview.
  • Hold events as appropriate to provide information and employer access to students.
  • Along with the Careers Team, prepare a work plan and meet the performance targets specific to this post.
  • Enhance the employment reputation of DBS and promote it as an institution.

Specific Responsibilities of the Role include

Planning

  • Prepare a work plan on an appropriate basis - annual, programme, project - for careers and work placement activity.
  • Report weekly on all work plans to the line manager.
  • Deliver 1 to 1 Careers Coaching consultations with students and Alumni.
  • Deliver Careers Workshops for both undergrad and postgrad students, both in class and on-line.

Outcome Targets

  • Take all necessary actions to achieve targets in relation to graduate outcomes, work placement outcomes and other related outcomes.
  • Provide outcome data for current and previous student intakes relating to students to the central point of storage of such data. This is specifically important for reporting to HEA and other government funders of students on programmes.

Employer Liaison

  • Work directly with new and existing employers to source work placements for students and to identify employment opportunities for graduates.

Assisting and Advising Students

  • Liaise with academic staff on students who have a credit-bearing work placement as part of their programme or who are seeking a work placement to enhance their employability so as a seamless service between academic and careers is provided to the student.
  • Work with students to prepare them for work placement, including CV preparation, interview preparation, and employability skills development.
  • Set up a mechanism for ongoing communication with students after they enter work placement.
  • Manage DBS Careers’ social media and associated channels.

Events

  • Participate in the planning and running of careers events for students to enhance their employability.
  • Participate in the planning and running of careers events where employers and students can connect.
  • Deliver both in-class and online workshops for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students.

Reporting

  • Report on activity and performance on a regular basis as it relates to the direct areas of responsibility of the post holder.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Typical working day is 8.45am – 5.15pm but flexibility will be required to occasionally include evenings and a weekend day
Person Specification

The post holder will possess the following essential attributes.

  • Higher Education Qualification at Level 7 or above.
  • Minimum of two years experience in a similar or related role.
  • Very driven and focused on achieving outcomes.
  • Proven experience in employment or careers service provision.
  • An understanding of customer service and an appreciation of the requirements of a private educational institution.
  • An empathy with the needs of students, both first-time college students and part-time students.
  • An understanding of higher education.
  • Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders, at various levels within and external to an organisation, and the ability to foster and maintain relationships.
  • Confident and professional in approach and demeanour.
  • A working knowledge of the Moodle learning environment or a similar online learning platform.
  • An aptitude for databases and other systems including an ability to learn how to use the student information system.
