Hours per week: 40 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Monday-Friday ( 8.00am to 16.00pm )

Responsibilities

SECURITY AND CLEANING DUTIES:

  • Ensure that the relevant Courtrooms are opened in good time, prior to a Court sitting and that the Courtroom is clean and ready to sit in.
  • Lock doors of courtrooms when Court is not in use. There must be no unauthorized access to Jury rooms, Consultation areas or to the Prison cell area.
  • Close courtrooms after court is finished.
  • Regular daily inspection of the building to ensure that there are no hazards and all emergency exits are clear of obstructions.
  • Use ofappropriate signage in any slippery area. Keep main hallway and public areas dry at all times to prevent any slip or fall. Mop up any spillages.
  • Courts Service staff can work from 8am up to 6pm (unless Court is sitting later). Must ensure that building is opened daily prior to staff arriving and locked up when all staff have left. Public access to the building should be closed at 4pm when Court is not sitting or in the case of a Court sitting when the Court has concluded.
  • Direct all members of the public/customers or Jurors to the appropriate office or courtroom.
  • Recycling bins, normal office litter and general waste bins to be emptied and removed to waste disposal point regularly. (New Waste Disposal contractor pending)
  • Empty wastepaper from any courtroom on the morning following use of the Courtroom and before a subsequent court commences.
  • Empty all waste bins in Public Areas and remove to waste disposal point.
  • Liaises with the cleaner on-site to ensure the building is adequately cleaned and in agreement with the Office Manager.
    (In relation to security during any court sitting the Court Registrar should liaise with the Service Officer. The substitute Service Officer or Service Officer must be on duty during any Court lunch break or recess by the court and must be readily available at all times to maintain the security of the building. He/she must ensure Courtrooms are locked during lunch and immediately after the Court rises. There should be no unauthorised access to Jury Rooms, Consultation areas or to the Prison cell area).

MAINTENANCE/ANCILLARY DUTIES:

  • Nominated as one of the key holders for call-out when security alarm activates.
  • Fix notices on doors to indicate use of Courtrooms and any other rooms. Remove same when no longer applicable, for example when a Court is “in camera”.
  • Meet members of the Judiciary; show them to chambers, reserve parking and provide the Judiciary with temporary access fobs when required. Any fobs issued are to be logged and collected after use. Inform Office Manager of any missing or unreturned fobs immediately.
  • Liaise with the Criminal Court Registrar in relation to provisions for the Jury. The Service Officer is to ensure that the Jury Room is fully stocked with the necessary stationary, refreshments, cutlery etc. The Service Office is to replenish any depleted stock of these items.
  • Liaise with Office Manager/Deputy Office Manager to arrange for replacement/repair of all damaged fixtures, furniture or fittings.
  • Ensure there is adequate supplies of necessary consumables (such as protective gloves, toilet rolls, soap, toilet cleaning agents, polishes or fresheners etc.).
  • Contact ISS for all cleaning products and equipment for the Courthouse.
  • Liaise with any attending service contractors. (Their attendance to be arranged in consultation with the Regional Office after a requisition number is obtained).
  • Ensure attending visitors, service men or contracted cleaners sign in to the visitor’s book. (Record their arrival time and the time they leave).
  • Receive deliveries and arrange for safe storage of same.
  • Fly the National flag on all court sitting days or special occasions when notified by the Office Manager or other member of staff appointed by them. The European Union flag should fly on these days also, unless otherwise instructed by the Officer Manager or Deputy Manager.
  • Liaise with the Prison escort to ensure the Prisoner area is being maintained to an acceptable standard. Any matter requiring attention to be notified to the Office Manager.
  • Toilet Rolls and Soap to be available at all times in all toilets.
  • Ensure there is no spillage left unattended.
  • Clean and buff the main hallway once every week. Do any necessary dusting of ledges and keep public areas safe and fully cleaned at all times.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned on a day-to-day basis by the Office Manager.
