Job Title: Cargo Supervisor - Cargo Operations Location: George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) – Houston, TX Department: United Cargo Job Type: Full-Time Reports To: Cargo Operations Manager – IAH Hub Job Summary: As the Supervisor – Cargo Operations at United Airlines' largest hub in Houston (IAH), you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and compliant execution of cargo handling support. This position oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the cargo office, supervises office staff, and ensures alignment with operational teams on the ramp and warehouse. You will serve as a liaison between internal departments, customers, and regulatory agencies to ensure a world-class cargo experience that reflects United’s standards of safety, reliability, and service. Key Responsibilities: * Supervise and coordinate the activities of cargo handling personnel, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety protocols. * Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet operational demands, including assigning tasks to team members and monitoring their performance. * Train and mentor cargo handling staff, providing guidance on best practices and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. * Coordinate with ramp, warehouse, and load planning teams to ensure efficient processing of inbound and outbound freight. * Ensure strict adherence to United Airlines policies and procedures, as well as TSA, FAA, IATA, and U.S. Customs compliance requirements. * Serve as the primary customer service contact for cargo clients, brokers, and freight forwarders at the IAH hub. * Maintain accurate cargo tracking and status updates via United’s cargo management systems. * Generate operational and compliance reports on cargo throughput, documentation accuracy, and service metrics. * Monitor cargo handling equipment and facilities, reporting any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate department. * Support government inspections, audits, and internal compliance reviews by ensuring timely access to all required documentation. * Identify and implement process improvements to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. * Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal departments including Ramp Operations, Load Planning, Security, and Customer Service. Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED required, Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Logistics, or related field preferred. * Minimum 2 years of experience in cargo, logistics, or airline operations support. * At least 1 year of supervisory or team lead experience in a fast-paced, regulated environment. * Working knowledge of air cargo procedures, shipment documentation (e.g., AWB, manifests), and regulatory compliance. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and cargo tracking systems; familiarity with United’s UC360 or equivalent platforms preferred. * Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. * Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in an airport environment. Preferred Certifications (not required but advantageous): * Prior experience in airline cargo operations, freight forwarding, or ground handling at a major hub airport. * Familiarity with TSA Known Shipper Program, FAA cargo security protocols, and IATA Dangerous Goods regulations. * Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. * Customer-focused mindset with the ability to de-escalate issues and drive service excellence. Work Environment: * Warehouse environment with exposure to cargo handling equipment, varying temperatures, dust, and noise. * Requires standing, walking, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) regularly. * PPE must be worn as required. * Requires ability to obtain airport SIDA badge and pass background and security clearance checks. Schedule: * Schedule will primarily be graveyard - from 10:00pm - 6:30am, may include working on , weekends, and holidays depending on flight and cargo volume needs. * Schedule may include flexibility in covering mornings and/or evenings shifts, if needed.
