Description
What You'll Do ... Works under direction and requires considerable knowledge of carpentry trade, hand and power tool operation, and blueprint reading. Serves as lead worker (e.g., provides work direction and training) over lower level carpenters, trades workers and/or incarcerated individuals performing carpentry duties. Designs, fabricates, repairs, and installs wood products (e.g., cabinets, Formica tops, partitions, shelves, and signs). Makes repairs and alterations to buildings (e.g., tile, floors, stairs, door frames, windows, walls, ceilings, rafters and roofs). Performs rough and finished carpentry work using skilled hand and bench tools. Determines and completes materials needed, cost estimates, and submit requests to purchase. Reads blueprints and/or schematic diagrams. Maintains inventory of carpentry supplies. Maintains tool count of tools used by incarcerated individuals (e.g. completes tool control form daily, maintains strict inventory of tools). Performs other maintenance and/or miscellaneous duties (e.g., performs semiskilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC) Ensures compliance with security regulations. Serves on institutional committees Attends training, seminars and/or meetings. Performs security functions as required (e.g. man-down, shakedown, inmate movement). Performs other duties as assigned (e.g. snow and ice removal and grass cutting). 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in carpentry work; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in blueprint reading; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in hand & power tool operation; formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions & percentages & in reading & writing common English vocabulary. -Or 6 mos. exp. as Carpenter 1, 52241. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
