POSITION SUMMARY

IDL Projects is seeking a Carpenter Foreman to lead site-based carpentry crews on building construction projects. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced Journeyman Carpenter who brings technical skill, strong communication, and a passion for mentorship and high-quality workmanship.
As a Carpenter Foreman, you will be responsible for coordinating, supervising, and participating in all aspects of carpentry construction. You will work closely with the Site Superintendent and Project Manager to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
This position requires the ability and willingness to work out of town on a rotational basis, depending on project location.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Carpenter Certification (Red Seal preferred) or equivalent trade certification recognized in a Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive carpentry experience, with at least 2 years in a foreman or leadership capacity.
  • Proven experience with formwork and framing in commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layout plans, and construction drawings.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of site safety protocols and Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate crews, manage work schedules, and resolve job site challenges.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions and on active construction sites
Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a crew of journeypersons and apprentices on carpentry scopes including formwork, framing, and finishing for building construction projects.
  • Plan and Coordinate daily work activities, ensuring timelines, safety standards, and quality expectations are met.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications to guide work and layout.
  • Hands-On Carpentry including performing carpentry duties as needed, including measuring, cutting, assembling, installing, and repairing structures using wood, steel, and other materials.
  • Ensure all work complies with building codes, drawings, and IDL standards.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture involves conducting toolbox talks, safety observations, and ensuring safe work practices.
  • Train and guide apprentices and less experienced crew members.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, inventory, and usage of tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders, including superintendents, subcontractors, and engineers.
