Description

This is a skilled position involving the construction and repair of equipment, cabinets and structures within Health PEI, at the Queens Elizabeth Hospital, Four Neighborhoods, Provincial Palliative Care Center

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must have completed Grade 12 and have successfully completed a carpentry course from a recognized institute of technology or trade school.
  • Must have a trades qualification number issued by the Department of Labour (Red Seal).
  • Considerable experience in the field.
  • Capable of sustained physical activity.
  • The successful applicant must have good previous work and attendance record.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in an institutional setting would be an asset.
  • Experience with work and procedures for infection control containment is an asset.
  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

    Salary Range: $29.91 per hour
    Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 Hrs. Bi-Weekly / Days, Evenings, Rotating Weekends, Stat Holidays / On-Call

Responsibilities
  • performing general carpentry work in the alteration, renovation, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, stairways, partitions, doors, screens, windows, wooden fixtures, furniture, hardware, etc.;
  • performing skilled bench work in the carpentry shop using a variety of carpentry tools;
  • cleaning, sharpening and repairing hand and bench tools;
  • making estimates of time and materials required for assigned tasks and keeping routine records;
  • Working knowledge of Best and Sargeant locking systems.
  • Installation/repairing of door hardware, locks, closures, panic hardware, magnetic hold backs and stops.
  • Familiarity of Rolling door systems and their components.
  • Seam filling and patching of walls.
  • Repairing window frames and glazing; Repairing and adjusting door and window hardware;
  • Repairing and constructing outside structures such as sheds, porches and steps;
  • Replacing and repairing lock sets, maintaining keying records and other locksmith duties;
  • Repairing and replacing counter tops, cabinetry laminates;
  • Installing wall mounted fixtures, curtain rods, shower rods, blinds, pictures, art work and clocks;
  • Performing preventative maintenance to furnishings;
  • Maintaining records of material and time devoted to work assignments;
  • Obtaining supplies as required;
  • Maintaining tools and shop equipment;
  • Performing housekeeping of work spaces;
  • Supervising one or more staff while performing a specific job as required;
  • Referring to blueprints and specifications to determine design parameters
  • Assisting in the development of construction and work plans;
  • Framing partitions and joining wallboard to construct wall facings;
  • Setting up Infection Control equipment.
  • Adhering to safe work practices, following Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and applicable safety codes;
  • Performing other related duties, as required.
