DAY IN THE LIFE AT ID3 CARPENTRY LEAD – CUSTOM FABRICATION & SCENIC BUILDS At ID3, a Carpentry Lead plays a key role in guiding fabrication teams and ensuring builds move from drawings to finished structures with accuracy and craftsmanship. This role is ideal for experienced carpenters who are ready to lead teams, manage shop builds, and mentor other craftsmen. Leading the Shop Floor The day typically begins by reviewing: * Project drawings and shop plans * Production schedules * Build priorities for the day The Carpentry Lead works closely with project managers and CAD detailers to ensure the team understands the build requirements. They then organize the team’s workflow and assign tasks to keep projects moving forward. Fabrication in Progress Throughout the day, the Carpentry Lead works alongside the team while ensuring builds meet ID3’s standards. Responsibilities often include: * Overseeing the fabrication of scenic and custom structures * Interpreting shop drawings and guiding the team through complex builds * Ensuring materials and techniques are used correctly * Maintaining safety and quality on the shop floor Carpentry Leads collaborate with metal, scenic, paint, and graphics departments to keep projects aligned. Mentoring and Problem Solving Custom fabrication requires both technical skill and leadership. Carpentry Leads often spend time: * Troubleshooting build challenges * Supporting team members with fabrication techniques * Ensuring projects remain on schedule * Communicating progress to project managers Their leadership helps maintain quality craftsmanship and efficiency across the shop.
