Description

UK Athletics (UKA) is looking to recruit individuals with Safeguarding expertise to their Case Management Group (CMG). The purpose of the CMG is to provide advice, guidance, and expert support to the UKA Safeguarding Team in the management of safeguarding concerns.

EXPERIENCE:

The CMG will be made up of individuals with relevant experience and expertise drawn from the following backgrounds:

  • Lead Safeguarding Officer(s)
  • National and regional delivery managers
  • Club representatives
  • Welfare officers from the Home Country Athletics Federations
  • Representatives from police, social care, or Local Authority Designated Officers (LADOs)
  • Legal advisors
  • Independent safeguarding professionals
  • Professionals from sectors with relevant experience in safeguarding and risk management

SKILLS:

Members of the CMG should have the following skills;

  • The ability to participate in fair, transparent, and child/adult-at-risk focused decision-making.
  • Strong judgement and decision-making skills rooted in policy, legislation, and objective evidence.
  • Competence in assessing risk and applying proportionate responses.
  • Analytical ability to review complex cases, reports, and patterns of concern.
  • Problem-solving skills to manage sensitive and multifaceted safeguarding issues.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work constructively with the Safeguarding Team and fellow CMG members.
  • A high level of integrity, including the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Members of the CMG will:

  • Promote co-operation, consistency, and confidence in safeguarding-related decision making.
  • Provide independent, informed opinions by applying appropriate expertise and experience to assist the UKA Safeguarding Team.
  • Ensure all concerns are managed fairly, proportionately, and within appropriate timescales.
  • Advise on safeguarding practice and policy development arising from casework.
  • Assist with decision-making related to adverse Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosures, and other information relevant to the assessment of risk in relation to children and adults at risk.
  • Ensure consistency and appropriateness of assessments in response to DBS disclosures and similar reports.
  • Recommend and agree interim or permanent suspensions on behalf of UKA, where required.
  • Analyse commissioned reports and determine whether further action is necessary, including initial decisions around risk and how it should be managed.
  • Offer expert advice on safeguarding matters across the athletics landscape.
  • Consider and recommend referral of individuals to UKA’s Disciplinary Panel, DBS, statutory agencies, or other relevant governing bodies such as the Home Country Athletics Federations or the British Athletics Federation.
  • Decide on Level One cases following review of relevant materials where the conduct is not accepted and issue orders that reflects the harm caused.
