This is a full-time & non-exempt position reporting to the Program Manager. San Diego Youth Services: Who we are San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 840,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless. We aim to: Meet the basic needs of youth. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets. Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources. SDYS has a staff of approximately 250 employees and 80 volunteers working across San Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $24 million. You can learn more about us at www.sdyouthservices.org CONTEXT OF THE POSITION Provide comprehensive, trauma-informed, and gender-responsive advocacy and case management services to adolescents and Transitional-Aged Youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation, human trafficking, domestic violence, housing instability, and other forms of victimization. Skilled in crisis response, short-term intensive case management, advocacy, and removal of barriers through collaborative, youth-centered service planning. Experienced in facilitating groups, completing emergency outreach with the CSEC Response Team, supporting Drop-In Center operations, and coordinating care with multidisciplinary partners to promote safety, stabilization, and long-term wellbeing. Committed to fostering empowerment, resilience, and recovery through culturally responsive engagement and a shared-decision-making approach. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Support youth through stabilization activities including housing, education, employment, and health; accompany youth to appointments and court; deliver crisis intervention; complete screenings; and provide transportation as needed. Participate in on-call responsibilities in collaboration with Child and Family Wellbeing (CFWB) and Law Enforcement. Ability to be on-call whenever the rotation falls within the position’s scope of responsibilities and respond in-person within 90 minutes. On-call rotation typically includes one week per month and one weekend per month and may change based on program needs. Coordinate care with multidisciplinary partners. Communicate and collaborate with Probation, CFWB, healthcare providers, therapists, natural supports, and partnering agencies to ensure continuity of care, reduce barriers, and support youth success. Maintain timely documentation and contract-required data. Conduct community outreach and strengthen collaborative partnerships including, and not limited to, providing trainings to community professionals, engaging potential referring partners, and connecting directly with youth and families. Develop, establish, and maintain collaborative partnerships with community providers, members and landlords. Support Drop-In Center operations including provide on-site milieu coverage, assist with daily program operations, and facilitate youth support groups (2-3 per week) and caregiver/family groups. Contribute to program development. Knowledgeable or willing to be trained in tenant-landlord laws, Fair Housing Laws, and the Transitional Housing Misconduct Act, and the Housing First Model. PREFERRED EDUCATION, YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in social work or related field or 2-5 years’ experience working with high-risk clients, preferably adolescents and Transitional Aged Youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation, human trafficking and/or Domestic Violence. Preferred lived experience through being a Survivor of victimization such as human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse or experience as a former foster youth. Experience in crisis intervention, group facilitation, documentation, and case management preferred. Must possess excellent oral and written skills. Work well autonomously and with multi-disciplinary team. Must have or be willing to be trained 40-hour Domestic Violence counselor training, Campbell Danger Assessment, Mental Health First Aid, Seeking Safety, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) trainings. Must be computer literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must be able to work within and represent a culturally and ethnically diverse community. Bi-lingual Spanish-English preferred. Must complete clearances including child abuse/criminal background check, health and substance abuse screening. Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in trauma-informed and dual diagnosis programs preferred.? Valid CA driver’s license, good driving record and willingness to use own properly insured vehicle on the job (mileage reimbursed). Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to assist youth. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand, to exchange accurate information and make presentations. The ability to lift and carry 20 pounds-lifting books, materials, and equipment to execute lessons and presentations. Able to observe details at a close range and interpret the information (such as reading), prepare, and review a variety of documents related to activities of the youth and to be able to monitor youth activities. Sitting or standing (stationary position) for extended periods of time. Traversing extended lengths to move around campuses. Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.
