ABOUT HARMONY HOUSE:

Since 1986, Harmony House has been a vital refuge for women and children fleeing violence. As Ottawa’s only second-stage women’s shelter, we provide transitional housing and supportive programs that empower women to move from crisis to independence.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Case Worker – Women and Families to join our frontline team on a six-month contract. This role is central to supporting residents as they transition to independent, abuse-free lives. The successful candidate will be the primary intake worker and provide daily support, advocacy, and referrals while respecting each woman’s autonomy and decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Hold at minimum a diploma in Social Service Work (Assaulted Women and Children Counsellor/Advocate or Social Work degree preferred)
· Minimum 2 years’ experience in gender-based violence, mental health, or related fields
· Strong understanding of trauma, AR/AO principles, and harm reduction
· Knowledge of relevant legislation (Child and Family Services Act, Landlord and Tenant Act)

· Excellent communication, mediation, and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems
  • Valid Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to lift boxes/furniture and navigate a multi-level building without elevator

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months
Pay: $32.53 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Conduct intakes, assessments, safety planning, and goal setting
