JOB OVERVIEW

Reeds Solicitors are seeking an experienced Caseworker to join our growing Complex Crime department. The successful candidate will assist Solicitors and Advocates in preparing cases for court.
There is also the potential for the successful candidate to be considered for a training contract.
It is desirable for applicants to be Police Station Accredited and willing to attend the Police Station outside of normal working hours on occasion.
The role is based in our Manchester office with hybrid working available following the successful completion of the training period.
A salary of £24,000 – £28,000 is offered, depending on experience.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Police Station Accreditation is highly desirable but not essential;
  • Experience in case working within either a criminal solicitors office or a barristers’ chambers;
  • Ideally have experience of handling own caseload of criminal cases and in particular complex crime cases;
  • A legal qualification such as LPC, BAR or CILEX would be desirable but not essential, a Training Contract would be available in the future for the right candidate;
  • Good communicator in both written and spoken English;
  • Good understanding of client care requirements and a commitment to legal aid;
  • Must be IT literate and be willing to learn;
  • Must be proactive in seeking to assist fee earners and apply a consistent attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills;
  • Good team work ethics; Working closely with Solicitors, barristers and other members of the team.
Responsibilities
  • Assist all Advocates throughout all stages of case preparation;
  • Administratively manage a case load of files under the supervision of Solicitors and Advocates including drafting letters to clients, courts and third parties, taking clients instructions, preparing statements, applications, written representations, and other legal documents;
  • Accurately time record for all work carried out on the case management system;
  • Ensuring standards of files are met in accordance with the Office Manual and Lexcel standards;
  • Provide the highest level of customer service;
  • Undertake legal research and instruct experts when required;
  • Undertaking a range of continuing professional development (CPD) activities (if applicable);
  • Any other duties as directed by the Team Leader or a member of the Management Team.
