Description
UPMC Altoona is hiring a full-time Cashier/Nutrition Service Assistant! This position will work 11am - 7:30pm. Purpose: Prepares and portions all cold food items, including salads, desserts, and beverages, for patient and employee feeding. Sets up and serves hot and cold food on the patient line and in the cafeteria. Cleans cold food area, serving tables, refrigerated units, and equipment in the cold food area. In addition, operates cash register and prepares proper forms for control of cafeteria receipts. Assists with the training of new cashiers. Responsibilities: Cold Food Preparation & Service Cleans, prepares, and mixes ingredients for cold foods; portions items correctly using proper scoop and serving size Cuts cakes evenly; follows proper rotation and uses oldest dates first Follows production sheet and records changes in amounts prepared and unused items after patient line Prepares supplemental feedings accurately; stores desserts appropriately after cold food set-up Observes FDA food handling procedures, including temperature control, rapid cooling, and glove use Cafeteria & Special Function Setup Prepares, delivers, sets up, and serves food for special functions and coffee breaks Sets up cafeteria serving areas, salad bar, and hot/cold food sides with required items and supplies Serves hot and cold foods per portion control list; serves customers promptly and resupplies as needed Cleaning & Sanitation Maintains sanitary work area and equipment (mobile stations, milk coolers); cleans and stores utensils properly Sanitizes food prep surfaces; completes assigned cleaning tasks Cleans and tears down food carts; rinses, racks, and soaks flatware Operates floor scrubber with correct pad and chemicals; disposes of waste properly using compactor Dishwashing & Tray Assembly Operates, loads, and cleans dish machine; refills soap/rinse additives and records temperatures Inspects dishes and flatware for cleanliness; sorts, stores, and transports to service areas Loads patient trays into food carts; checks temperatures and follows unit-up and lift procedures Delivers and returns food carts properly; cleans carts and lines them up correctly Supply Management Checks soda and ice cream par levels on nursing units Assembles and delivers non-patient supplies; stores patient supplies in cooler Breaks & Special Functions Cleans up and documents breaks/special functions; stores returned items appropriately Uses Power Pal to transport food carriers; uses electric warmers only after being serviced Cash Handling & Register Operation Balances cash daily; operates Suite Pointe register and maintains tape accuracy Maintains change supply; receives payments and records no-cash meal charges Cafeteria Maintenance & Customer Service Keeps cafeteria clean and clutter-free; refills coolers, makes coffee, and completes weekly cleaning tasks Compiles meal counts and deposits; submits vending rebates for reimbursement Checks trays for portion size and eye appeal; reports discrepancies Cleans dining area and updates menu boards; operates adding machine and register Provides customer service and support Other Reports equipment malfunctions; performs other duties as assigned High School Diploma or GED required with courses in business mathematics and cash handling skills.
