Description Cashier Job Description The role of Cashier is to provide excellent customer service to Co-op shoppers by providing stellar product and store knowledge, and maintaining a clean station/café. The Cashier is responsible for accurate and ensuring timely check outs. Status: Part Time or Full Time, Hourly, Non-exempt Pay Level: I Reports to: Front-end Manager Works closely with: Department Leads, Front-end Team Cashiering Deliver A+ customer service, for every customer, every time! Become familiar with co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to MOD or other appropriate staff. Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately. Call for back-up as needed so that customers wait as little as possible to be checked out. Bag customer purchases as needed and ask customers if they need assistance. For those needing assistance, carry out groceries or call other staff if available. Explain benefits of membership to interested customers, sign up new members, ensuring complete information on application and explain non-member surcharge. Be responsible for and knowledgeable about bimonthly sales, specials and upcoming store events to inform customers. Return items following co-op policies, and ensure that returns are properly handled. Maintain coffee station. Front & Face shelves close to register when there are no customers to check out. Maintain front end in clean, orderly condition. Take customer pre-orders and ring them out correctly. Perform opening and closing tasks thoroughly and efficiently. Complete any other tasks assigned by front end manager, MOD, or other managers. Customer Service Ensure a welcoming store environment that reflects the Co-op’s values and purpose through supporting and advancing existing procedures and policies. Assist customers with product questions, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary. Role model friendly, engaged customer service for staff and provide excellent internal service to staff and peers. Be responsible for understanding and practicing the guidelines in our Customer Service Training Packet and the Zingerman’s customer service videos. Explain store policies and procedures clearly, completely and concisely to all customers. Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed. Uphold security procedures including theft, disorderly customers, emergencies, proper opening and closing procedures. Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to the Management Team. Teamwork/ Problem Solving Work cooperatively with other staff, both within the department and other departments to achieve overall Co-op needs. Contribute to an environment of harmony, positivity, and professionalism in all interactions. Accept and offer feedback and suggestions openly and respectfully. Talk directly to people involved. Other Participate in quarterly inventory counts. Attend department and all-staff meetings. Perform other tasks as directed by the management team. Assist and direct working members as needed. Requirements Experience serving the public. Familiarity with natural foods. Ability to project friendly, outgoing personality. Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly. Physical job requirements: Standing continuously for up to 8 hours with one 45 minute break about halfway through shift Walking around the store frequently; to and from the outdoor parking lot occasionally Lifting and/or carrying up to 20lbs frequently, up to 30lbs occasionally Reaching at or below shoulder level and twisting to the right and left constantly Gross manipulation constantly (scanning groceries across a scanner scale, bagging groceries, making coffee, sweeping and mopping, etc.) Stooping occasionally Operating a touchscreen cash register constantly, screen at shoulder/chest height Pushing/pulling occasionally (grocery carts, mopping with rolling mop bucket)
